I see people upset about Willow's characterization in the RWBY Comic, and really I dont see the problem. This and the show, shows us two sides to her character. The manipulative side of her, and the one who is self aware that she is an awful parent, and glad that they are distancing themselves from her and their father.

But that's my interpretation
