Well that was a mouthful. After watching Stardust Memories I wanted to pick up this or the regular GP01 but I like this design more. So I went and looked on Dalong and asked people on /m/ about it and found out about how the core fighter really fucks this up. Bought it anyways, it’s just a hand grenade that wants to fall apart while posing.
Building it was fairly standard for an RG, got that inner frame and shit. I went and bought some waterslides from our good ol boy Sammy so this was my first time using waterslides. With the amount that goes on an RG i didn’t want the outlines and shit so yeah, $4 sheet of them wasn’t too bad. I really liked building the legs, probably my favourite part of the kit.
Now that core fighter system. Fuck it. It doesn’t come with a block like the RG RX-78-2 so you gotta put it in. It’s transformation is okay but the system that “locks” it all together is shit. Relies on tiny little tabs and slots to keep it together but they’re so small it doesn’t work. And with the added weight of the boosters on the back it’ll often come apart while posing/handling it. I’ve heard that most people just end up gluing it together which is probably the best thing to do. Also there’s the problem that the shield is a little heavy (not much) but because of the core fighter stuff being shit the model will sag to the right unless you have the shield posed in front/to the right side. And I dunno if it’s just mine or what but I can’t get the neck to move properly, it’s kinda stuck in one place. I can move it forward but it will reset itself to the default position.
Overall I’d recommend getting it. The core fighter is a downside but glue exists. You’re not missing much by gluing it together. And yeah I know those gouges are shit 10/10 would yell at again.
I used Waterslides from Samuel Decal, Gundam Real Touch Markers for lining, the official foils that come with the kit for those and Testors Dull Cote for the top coat.
