THE Elden Ring Church Megapost
sorry for the delay everyone! I've had a lot going on recently, so only now have I really had the time to sit down and begin writing my thoughts on all this, but I think I have enough stuff to begin.
Part I: Laying Down the Basics
To start, this series is going to cover a lot of ground over multiple post, each divided roughly based on the denomination that they're based on. By analyzing the layout, architecture, and decor of these buildings, I hope to wring out some deep worldbuilding that gives the Lands Between more depth in really subtle ways.
But before I begin in earnest, I would like to drop some basic ground knowledge. I'm fairly acquainted with ecclesiastic architecture and terms (cultural Catholic and all that) but I figured some Elden Ring fans may not, so I would just like to include some diagrams of vocab words I'll probably use fairly regularly. In particular, I'd like to thank @gimmickbook for this diagram of the architectural elements in play here.
Unfortunately, I couldn't easily find an equally clear-cut diagram of a church's floor layout, so here's a mildly edited version of one I found on Wikipedia.
With that largely out of the way, I can't wait to get writing for real!
I'd like to write some stuff about Elden Ring, so I'm putting this poll up to see what people would be interested in
What should I analyze?
The architecture of churches in the Lands Between
the Academy Gate Town
knighthood
Government(s) of the Lands Between
Mt. Gelmir before the siege of Volcano Manor
Something Else (feel free to put it into the tags!)
Depending on how many thoughts I have, it could be either one long post, or a chain of smaller ones.
I'm still getting used to doing my own thing here, so apologies if I've made any mistakes. Regardless, I hope you enjoy this!
So I've got the itch to write but I don't feel like writing narrative stuff, so I'd thought I should finally share my Tarnished OCs here for whoever wants to see them!
Haradir of Kaiden / Haradir, the Last King of Caria
Haradir is my first Elden Ring character, and so far, the only one I've beaten the story on. He's generally built as a mixed strength-intelligence build, favoring Loretta's halberd and frost sorceries.
As for his backstory, Haradir's mother was a runaway student from the Academy of Raya Lucaria, while his father was a Kaiden sellsword who also ran away from his post. Thus, Haradir was raised outside of the Lands Between, practicing both his mother's sorcery and his father's melee skills, and was already quite formidable when he was first called by Grace to mend the Elden Ring.
Overall, Haradir is gruff and withdrawn, and brushes of appeals to sentimentality or threats. Still, he's very dedicated to doing what's right for as many people he comes by, though he understands when dirty work needs to get done. It was this attitude that led him to helping Ranni bring about the Age of the Stars, even if he still views warily (and too gay to see the marriage as romantic, lmao).
Flame Nun Lumina
Lumina was my faith build save, and I think I started her around the time I got stuck in Farum Azula on my main save. I originally wanted to go all-in on blackflame incantations when I started this character, but then I discovered how crazy good the Blasphemer's Blade is and can no longer be separated from it.
Anyway! Lumina was originally a simple young noblewoman from Leyndell, and was known for her study of incantations and the Golden Order. Everything changed for her, however, when she was accused of studying forbidden history regarding the Gloam-Eyed Queen and was dishonorably banished to outside the Lands Between. A furious Lumina became increasingly determined to get revenge of the order that had wronged her and saw her call of grace as the perfect opportunity to carry out her plans.
Lumina presents the facade of being a kindly young maiden when in the presence of other tarnished or respectable figures, but very much hides a cutthroat interior. Once she sets her sights on a goal, she will do whatever it takes to make sure it's done. Though she does hate the Golden Order and its servants, she tries to prevent collateral damage out of pragmaticism. Thus, she's going for the Age of the Duskborn instead of the Frenzied Flame.
Okay, so despite having this account for nearly a year by now, I haven't really posted anything of my own. Whoops! Anyway, there's no better time to start than the present, you know? Now that I feel a lot more comfortable around Tumblr's norms and customs, I'm glad I can start posting some of my own things now.
Praise the Pinned Post!
Hello, anyone who has stumbled upon this little blog. I’m always a bit leery about over sharing on the internet, so you can just call me Ryan.
I’ve actually been on Tumblr since spring 2023 but didn’t really understand the common etiquette of this fabled hellsite until the Reddit migration. So, better late than never to begin betting curating this place, huh?
…
Anyway, I largely use this blog to enjoy fan works and interpretations of media my brain decides I shall hyperfixate on, though I occasionally post more serious stuff.
But all that being said, feel free to look around, and remember to be polite and such.
