do you notice how people who don’t want their worldview to be challenged always call something they disagree with a “belief”, as if a factual part of someone else’s experience is just faith in an untrue thing? not to mention that it means they get away with implying it’s untrue, because it’s socially acceptable to disbelieve in others’ faith.

which is hard work

love is countless disagreements over months and years to figure out how best to gel with someone. it’s seeing the storm in them and deciding not to jump ship at the next port. it’s taking interest in stuff that might not interest you, because they adore it and seeing them so happy to share it with you makes a little boredom worthwhile. it’s choosing to put your own problems aside for an hour or two because they’re in a worse spot emotionally and you want to be there for them. it’s about compromising even on things you really wanted for yourself, because they want something wildly different.

love isn’t glamorous or all just cutesy​ feelings. it’s something you work on, together, over a long time. and it is absolutely what makes a relationship work.
