Sequins are officially his new greatest pet peeve. This decision comes after tonight’s performance—some unholy combination of a masquerade and a strip show mashed into one—has him struggling to untangle the iridescent scales from his already messy hair. The mask he threw off as soon as he got backstage, but it had left behind a small gift in the form of shed sequins, and he’s half-tempted to simply take a pair of scissors to his curls if that will get rid of the nuisance faster.
Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to be booked for anyone yet, so he’s left undisturbed as he beats a hasty retreat towards his room, taking side-corridors and hidden passages to avoid the attention of any guests lingering after the show.
He’s got his head down, yanking savagely at a particularly stubborn knot, when he rounds the corner right in front of his door and walks face-first into someone else’s back.
“Oof-! What the—” Irritation turns into unease as the fear this might be a customer prompts him to look up, but the face that greets him is a reassuring one. Relief sweeps through him. “Oh hey, good timing, come with me!”
Grabbing Gus by the wrist, he all but yanks the investigator into his room, locking the door behind them and pulling them both down onto the mountain of blankets and pillows that swamp his bed. “Help me get these stupid things out of my hair, they’re driving me nuts,” he pauses, a sudden thought occurring to him, and he turns a cautious stare towards the man next to him. “Say...you weren’t planning on meeting someone, one of us maybe, out there? Were you?”
