summary: Hoseok’s a little drunk, but Namjoon can't afford to let loose like him.
⇢ day two of namseok week 2018
"What? No fire tonight?" Hoseok asks, smiling at Namjoon beside him.
Namjoon shakes his head, his hat flopping into his face before Hoseok removes it for him and fixes his hair as well. The younger wizard blushes and ducks his head then, forgetful of the fact that he even had the hat on, to begin with. Hoseok only smiles at him, leaning over the bar when Namjoon stutters in his response.
"H-Huh?" Is Namjoon's intelligent answer.
Hoseok laughs, leaning into Namjoon's side with the force of it and Namjoon belatedly realizes that Hoseok is already a little tipsy. "Mate, you've been nursing that same bottle of butterbeer all night. When are you going to order a firewhiskey or do I have to do it for you?"
"Not in the mood to get drunk, really. Someone has to Apparate us home," Namjoon mutters, ducking his head even lower to avoid Hoseok's stare when the elder pins him with a scrutinizing look. "Plus, the Leaky Cauldron is more my style than this pub."
"I don't doubt that," Hoseok guffaws and before Namjoon can decide whether that's an insult or not, Hoseok is speaking up again. "How're things in your department? There've been a lot of whispers here and there about a certain object that should've been destroyed suddenly showing up."
It's not phrased as a question, but the tone of Hoseok's voice tells Namjoon that the elder expects a response either way. Namjoon takes a swig from his butterbeer and merely shrugs, less than enthusiastic to reply.
"Don't know what you're talking about."
Hoseok laughs again, fingers toying at the sleeve of Namjoon's purple robes as he asks more questions that Namjoon evades. He hadn't gotten the chance to change out of his work robes before he hurried over to meet Hoseok on time, but Hoseok hadn't minded one bit and instead shoved a butterbeer into Namjoon's hand as soon as he sat down. The same butterbeer that Namjoon is currently nursing actually, and maybe Namjoon should find it a little pathetic that he doesn't want to get drunk on a Friday night with his best mate, but things have been weird on Namjoon's end of their friendship for some time now that he can't afford to let loose when Hoseok's around. Getting drunk is a no-go for him right now.
So he takes another swig from the bottle in his hand and waits for Hoseok to prod at him further with questions.
"I get why everyone at the Ministry calls you guys Unspeakables. It's almost laughable, to be honest, but I feel like you're hiding more than just your job to me, Joonie," Hoseok says with a kind smile, the bar lights above them glinting in his eyes and Namjoon very much wants to kiss him.
Instead, he offers Hoseok a bland smile and swallows his feelings down for what feels like the hundredth time. "I'm heading home. Do you want to Side-Apparate with me so I can drop you off?"
Hoseok sets far too many galleons down on the counter and grabs hold of Namjoon's arm with a surprisingly strong grip, hefting him up and out of the pub with clear excitement and a spring in his step that Namjoon never would've expected from him while intoxicated. He still does his best to keep up though, wary of what may happen if Hoseok decides to Apparate himself in his excitement.
But when Hoseok presses himself close as they walk outside into the cold London air, Namjoon can't help but imagine that when Hoseok looks him right in the eye, there's more than just friendship greeting him. Namjoon wraps an arm around Hoseok's waist and without breaking eye contact, he turns on the spot, Disapparating them away with a loud crack!
summary: Namjoon’s sick and won’t stop trying to work on his essay. It’s up to Hoseok to make the younger man get some much-needed rest.
⇢ day four of namseok week 2018
"Joon-ah, you're gonna die before you finish that paper. Why do you insist on torturing yourself like this?" Hoseok wails from the kitchen, his voice making Namjoon jump in his seat on the couch.
Namjoon blinks then coughs and goes back to typing once he's sure that Hoseok is done yelling. "We die like men, Hobi. No way am I not going to finish this before I do."
Hoseok sighs dramatically closer now, near the entrance of the kitchen. "Joonie, seriously. You're sick. Let me email your professor and explain the deal."
There's a click as the stovetop is turned off and Hoseok pulls out bowls and spoons, most likely pouring chicken soup for Namjoon to eat, but Namjoon ignores that for focusing on the second to last paragraph of his essay. After this, it'll just be his conclusion, a little editing and he's home free. Hoseok spends a little more time in the kitchen as Namjoon bulldozes through the rest of his paper, breathing a sigh of relief once he's halfway through the conclusion.
This paper is easy for him, he's just too tired and too sick to really focus on it as much as he actually wants to, which means he'll probably only get a B+ instead of his usual A. Any other time that would turn him into a nervous wreck, bemoaning his less than perfect gpa, but for now, for a sick Namjoon who just finished this paper that's due next week, he's okay. Even if Hoseok is worried about him and telling him to take a rest, Namjoon doesn't like pushing things off until last minute and will generally start working on a project or assignment as soon as it's given to him.
Hoseok sets a bowl of soup down on their coffee table as Namjoon saves his paper three times (there's never any harm in having a backup for your backup) and grumbles about Namjoon working too hard right now. Namjoon only shrugs, powers down his laptop and graciously accepts the bowl of soup, eating all of it just to appease the elder's worries. Hoseok smiles once he's done, pressing a kiss to his temple as he takes the empty bowl and dumps it into the sink to clean later. When he comes back into the living room, he hauls Namjoon off the couch with a surprising amount of strength and drags him towards their bedroom.
"You've finished your paper, you ate some soup, now it's time to fucking rest dear god, Namjoon. Why are you so damn stubborn?" Hoseok nags, pushing Namjoon down onto the mattress once they've reached their room. "Do I have to tie you to the bed just so you can sleep this cold off?"
Namjoon smiles up at the elder, his cheeks slowly flushing as he murmurs, "That's kinky, Hobi."
Hoseok stares dumbfounded at the younger before he snaps out of it and grabs a pillow to throw it at Namjoon's head. "Do. Not. Try and distract me right now. It isn't going to work. Now sleep, before I punch you in the nose and make you sleep."
"You wouldn't dare," Namjoon teases, smiling wide as he makes himself comfortable in the bed.
"Oh, I dare," Hoseok threatens as he tucks in Namjoon. "Sleep. Now. Or no sex when you get better."
Namjoon's eyes flutter shut then, exaggerating just how asleep he is and smiling when Hoseok laughs at him. He reaches out blindly and finds Hoseok's wrist, quickly intertwining their hands as he lets his mind start to blank out.
"Love you, Hobi. Thank you. I'll get some rest now."
"You're welcome and good!" Namjoon can't see it, but he knows that Hoseok is smiling when he says, "I love you too, you big dummy. Now get some rest."
Namjoon nods, still smiling as he lessens his grip on the elder's hand. His mind focuses on nothing as he lets Hoseok's nearness and warmth lull him to sleep.

Here is the story of how Namjoon and Hoseok fell in love, broke up, fell in love again, and broke up once more before coming back together.
⇢ day one of namseok week 2018
The first time they meet, Namjoon is four and Hoseok is five.
Namjoon is new in Gwangju, unfamiliar with the scenery and still unsure of whether he'll make any new friends or not. Hoseok sits beside him in his new class and when recess time comes, Hoseok immediately turns to face Namjoon and introduces himself.
They play tag and Hoseok manages to wrangle the rest of their class into the game until it turns into an all-out war and Namjoon is grateful for Hoseok throwing himself in front of the taggers whenever they try to tag Namjoon.
After recess, Hoseok leads him back to the classroom with an arm over his shoulder, his face flushed, and invites Namjoon back to his house later for a round of video games. Namjoon agrees, sure that his mother won't have a problem with it.
She doesn't.
The first time Namjoon tells Hoseok he likes boys, they're both twelve.
Hoseok doesn't gasp or stare at Namjoon in horror. He simply smiles and says, "Me too."
Namjoon smiles back at him, unable to resist that bright grin and goes back to reading. Hoseok watches him for a long while afterward, studying Namjoon's features and the expressions that flit across his face as he reads.
Hoseok nods to himself sometime later, as if confirming something to himself, then turns back to his own book and starts reading again.
Namjoon pretends not to notice.
The first time they kiss, Namjoon is thirteen and Hoseok is fourteen.
It's because of a dare because, of course, it's because of a dare. None of the kids they go to school with will let them get out of this and Namjoon's palms sweat with nerves, his stomach tingling with mild panic. Hoseok shrugs and leans into Namjoon's space once the encouragements from their peers become too loud to ignore.
Hoseok's lips brush gently against Namjoon's and stay there for a moment longer than necessary before Hoseok is pulling away. Namjoon is left wide-eyed and surprised, a little numb to the world around them as their classmates erupt into cheers. Hoseok ignores them and smiles at Namjoon warmly, brushing the younger's hair out of his eyes when his bangs fall into his face.
Namjoon flushes and turns back to face the circle, bowing out of the game a little later with Hoseok right on his heels. They stand on the porch as they wait for Namjoon's mother to pick them up and Namjoon finds that he doesn't know what to say when Hoseok grips his chin and makes Namjoon look him in the eye.
They kiss under the moonlight for a long time.
The first time Hoseok asks Namjoon out, they're both fifteen.
They've been in that place that's between friends and more for over a year now, the gray area giving Namjoon a lot of doubts he isn't sure he can get over with ease. And as the winter formal approaches, Namjoon worries over whether Hoseok will ask him to go with him or not.
Of course, Hoseok assures him later that he shouldn't have ever doubted that, to begin with. Hoseok would never bother going to the formal if Namjoon wasn't the one on his arm.
Hoseok asks him with a bouquet of Namjoon's favorite flowers and a poem that he wrote himself, baring his young and unknowing heart to his best friend.
Namjoon's sure that he first fell in love on that day.
The first time they break up, they are both sixteen and Namjoon doesn't talk to Hoseok for a week.
They avoid each other at school until one day Hoseok stops showing up for a while. It's only three days actually, but it worries Namjoon to no end and on the third day, he makes a beeline for Hoseok's house after school.
Hoseok's mother lets him in with a smile, urging him to remain quiet as he walks up the stairs to Hoseok's room. Namjoon takes a deep breath in then opens the door, not really prepared to see Hoseok in bed with a cast on his leg, arms crossed over his chest as he stares up at his ceiling. The elder startles when he sees Namjoon in his doorway, but waves a hand to silently tell him to further enter his room.
It looks the same as ever, except for a few photos turned down on Hoseok's dresser that Namjoon knows contain him in the frames. He blushes a little and pulls Hoseok's desk chair over to the bed, hesitant to reach out and play with Hoseok's hair like he usually would. Hoseok notices his hesitance and grabs his hand, resting it on top of his head before his eyes flutter shut and Namjoon quickly begins to run his fingers through the dark black locks.
Namjoon apologizes for how he handled the breakup and Hoseok apologizes as well, smiling bitterly when he tells Namjoon how he'd actually planned to approach Namjoon first before breaking his leg. Namjoon only laughs and a little normalcy is returned to them.
Namjoon ends up staying the night.
The first time they agree to be just friends, they're still sixteen and figuring out how to be each other's best friend again.
Hoseok is all smiles, as always, but there's still a feeling of awkwardness lingering in the air whenever they hang out. The elder is freshly out of his cast and Namjoon does his best to keep him from dancing so much, but Hoseok is persistent and stubborn and his passion for dancing won't be paused just because he broke his leg.
Even with the slight discomfort between them, Namjoon doesn't want Hoseok to hurt himself even worse than before and puts his foot down, following Hoseok to all his dance practices.
It isn't until Namjoon attends Hoseok's first underground competition that he truly starts to get it.
While they're there though, Namjoon meets Yoongi, an underground rapper who traveled from Daegu to compete that night. Namjoon is without a doubt taken with him off the bat and he accompanies Hoseok to these events more and more just so he'll get a chance to talk about music with the slightly older boy with cat-like eyes.
Hoseok looks on with jealousy but lets Namjoon have this, unwilling to push himself onto every aspect of Namjoon's life. Because they're friends again ー and good ones at that ー and nothing would justify the way Hoseok wants to tear Namjoon away from Yoongi whenever all three of them meet up. And Namjoon knows that Hoseok is irritated a little because of his new friendship with Yoongi, but he also knows that Hoseok won't interfere because it isn't his place to anymore.
Namjoon is grateful that they're just friends again.
The first time they get back together, Namjoon is nineteen and Hoseok is twenty.
How Namjoon feels is almost identical to the first time they dated, but not ー in a strange way. The feeling has matured into something richer and a little smoother. It's still a little bumpy, jagged in some sections of the edges, but it's better this time around.
Hoseok is mature now as well, not as easily swayed and when they have a problem, they talk about it. Not like last time when they were teenagers and Hoseok would always assume the worst before even getting Namjoon's side of the story.
Because their young love had driven them to extremes, desperate to have this fairytale kind of connection without ever discussing if what they wanted was the same thing. It had put them at each other's throats until it all fell apart and they avoided one another. Until Namjoon went and stayed that night with Hoseok, too scared and too worried to go back home where he wouldn't know if Hoseok was okay ー where he wouldn't know if they were okay.
Now they're older, Namjoon in university while Hoseok is attending dance showcase auditions and amateur dance competitions. Hoseok works at a gasoline station to make ends meets with rent and their bills for the cramped apartment they share as roommates and not as more. But Namjoon doesn't complain because he works at a coffee shop and in his opinion, both of their jobs suck.
They're learning how to be adults with each other and while they are together, Namjoon is careful not to twine themselves together so crudely like they were the first time. Hoseok understands too and so that's how they live for the time being.
Namjoon hopes it'll be enough, but of course, he isn't always right.
The first time they date other people while on break, Namjoon is twenty-two and Hoseok is twenty-three.
They're still roommates because it isn't like they can afford much else, but this time, the relationship isn't at a complete and total end. They're on friendlier terms and don't outright avoid each other like they did when they were teenagers.
Namjoon is at a bar with Yoongi, his arm wrapped around the elder's waist. None of this had actually been planned. Yeah, Namjoon had called Yoongi up and asked him if he wanted to go to dinner with him one night when Hoseok was over at Jimin's place, on their third date by then, but he'd never actually expected his old crush to say yes.
They'd gone to dinner and it had gone shockingly well. Yoongi discussed music just like he had when they first met, but now there was more personal stuff mixed in as well and Namjoon appreciated it all. Their date had gone well and Yoongi had led Namjoon back to his apartment where they had sex on Yoongi's couch before Yoongi broke out his cheapest wine and let Namjoon spend the night in his bed.
The next morning, Namjoon had reached the elevator the same time Hoseok had, both of them surprised to see the other during their walks of shame. But Hoseok had only laughed when Namjoon told him he spent the night with Yoongi because Hoseok had seen it coming and he was still Namjoon's friend after all.
Namjoon had blushed a pretty dusky pink and let Hoseok use him as a crutch when the elevator doors opened and they walked to their apartment together. Hoseok mumbled something about Jimin being a pretty nice guy and that he'd like for Namjoon to meet him sometime and Namjoon had accepted without hesitance.
Neither of them had mentioned the fact they were on break.
So Namjoon has gone on a lot more dates with Yoongi since then, and he likes him, had even introduced Yoongi to Jimin when they had gone on a double date. But it doesn't come close to what he had with Hoseok ー what he's always had with Hoseok. Yoongi's a little tipsy from the two shots they've downed so far and he has that look on his face that Namjoon already knows as his "I want to have crazy, drunken sex later at my place" and Namjoon can't find that he wants to deny Yoongi this.
But when they get there, Yoongi pauses in the middle of taking Namjoon's pants off and looks up at him from where he's kneeling on the floor. "You're still thinking of him."
"What?" Namjoon startles, his eyes making out a slightly-blurry Yoongi by his crotch. "Who?"
"Hoseok."
Namjoon stares at him for a while longer, having no clue what to say and Yoongi smiles at him, nothing bitter or sad about his expression as he stands up. "You should go home, Joonie. I think we both know that this was never going to be more than just sex and conversation."
Yoongi calls a cab for Namjoon then helps him put his jacket on at the door and when Namjoon waves goodbye, Yoongi's still smiling as he waves back before disappearing back into his apartment building.
When he gets home, he finds Hoseok on the couch, crying. Namjoon rushes to his side and between sniffles and the occasional sob, Hoseok tells Namjoon of how he broke up with Jimin because he couldn't stop thinking about him instead. Namjoon only smiles and pets Hoseok's hair, lulling the elder to sleep as he hums a song that Hoseok likes. Then he leans back and studies his childhood best friend, the love of his life.
Namjoon's an idiot for thinking they could really give their all to someone else when they've always had each other. But it's nice to know that they could try at least, they could try and not be bitter about the other trying as well.
A couple months later, Yoongi and Jimin start dating.
The first time they have makeup sex, they're both twenty-seven.
The fight had been over the colors of the new drapes for their living room windows, but it hadn't really been over the drapes. It'd been over all the other things that had been building up to it: Hoseok's new job as stage director, the stress, and all the planning that a neat-freak like him had to do. Namjoon's own job as a high school teacher, worried over some of his students' well-being and fretting how exactly he'll be able to design these lesson plans in a way that will interest all of his students, even the troublesome ones.
So it'd been the build-up that had created such a mess but now they're here, bodies intertwined and never breaking eye contact, apologies still hanging heavy in the air around them. Their hips roll together fluidly, following a rhythm that their bodies know well enough to pick up with ease. Namjoon groans aloud, his head tilted back as their speed picks up and Hoseok moans with him, hands tugging on Namjoon's hair before their lips crash together.
Namjoon knows his mouth will probably bruise because Hoseok is just too rough right now, but this is what he wants. He wants this messy and furious thing with Hoseok.
He wants everything with Hoseok.
The first (and only) time they get married, Namjoon is thirty-three and Hoseok is thirty-four.
The ceremony is a small event, only their close friends and family attend and Namjoon has never felt happier. Yoongi's his best man and Jimin is Hoseok's, but Taehyung is in the first row, holding hands with both of his boyfriends, Seokjin and Jeongguk, as he weeps freely over his friends coming together in matrimony. Namjoon smiles unbearably wide when he says "I do" and Hoseok's grin matches his, the sun paling in comparison.
Hoseok never lets go of him, always touching Namjoon in any place he can get away with at their reception later. They eat a little, then dance a lot and when they cut the cake, Yoongi shoves his plate into Hoseok's face, ensuring a cake fight between the seven of them. The other guests look on politely, but when Namjoon's mother gives him a pointed look, he's quick to put a stop to the impromptu food fight.
They drink some champagne and eat a little more, but when Hoseok drags Namjoon out on the dance floor, it's with purpose. Their first dance goes by well and Namjoon thanks Yoongi for giving him lessons beforehand as Hoseok beams at him proudly for not stepping on his toes the entire time. The speeches come right after and Namjoon's sure his face has never been this red before, but with Hoseok beside him, he can't say that he really minds.
After the reception, when they make love that night it's not for the first or last time.
The last time they love each other, Namjoon is seventy-six and Hoseok is seventy-seven.
Hoseok's on his deathbed and Namjoon can't stop crying. The elder is going off to a better place though and he tells Namjoon as such, assuring him that wherever he'll go, he'll always be waiting for Namjoon to join him, no matter how long it takes. Namjoon's tears only seem to increase and Hoseok smiles at him.
"I love you," Hoseok whispers between them. "Always have and always will."
And long after the elder's grip has gone slack, Namjoon is still holding on tight to Hoseok's hand.

⇢ day six of namseok week 2018
This is ridiculous, is the only thing Hoseok can focus on as he raises his hand to knock on the wooden door in front of him.
This was Seokjin's idea ー not his ー because apparently Hoseok really needs the help.
Not like Hoseok actually agrees with him, but he's a little desperate so he finds himself here anyway.
Still, he's really here because Seokjin had said the man who lives here is a fallen star who grants wishes.
The house is a quaint thing, small and old, with a white wooden door and burgundy tiles. There are a variety of flowers in the front yard and Hoseok is relieved just by the sight of them.
At least whoever lives here will actually have a grasp on gardening.
There's a candle on the porch, burning brightly despite the early morning and Hoseok stares at it for a while, feeling entranced. From beyond the door, in the house, there are the sounds of cooking, pots and pans clinking, cutlery clanging and someone moving about the kitchen, making all that noise. He breathes out, steadying his nerves and then.
He knocks, slow and careful ー wary of getting splinters from the door ー and then he waits.
A loud clang sounds out from the kitchen, a pot being set down too hard and a muffled curse but then there's hurried footsteps as someone rushes to answer the door. Hoseok doesn't actually know what to expect, but a man smiling wide to show off his dimples isn't what he expected.
The man has blonde hair swept back and away from his face, making his features the main point of his appearance. He only wears pajama bottoms, his chest bare and Hoseok stares.
There's just so much skin that it's hard for Hoseok to focus on much else. He blinks and only sees a chest, barely any hair growing on it and a small happy trail near the front of his bottoms. It's mouthwatering, to say the least.
The man is still smiling when Hoseok recovers himself enough to look up, but his face is now more noticeably flushed and there's a shy sentiment hidden in his gaze. Hoseok gulps and tries for words, forgetting what to say now that he's suddenly facing this gorgeous man.
“Um,” Hoseok mumbles out, his ears feeling warm.
The man steps aside so that Hoseok can see the inside of his house and motions for Hoseok to enter, still smiling. “I’m Namjoon. You can come in if you want.”
Hoseok ducks his head and stamps his feet on the mat, cautiously stepping inside. “Thank you. My name’s Hoseok.”
Namjoon closes the door behind him, but Hoseok doesn't think any odd of it as he goes even further into Namjoon’s house. “Give me a moment to put something more presentable on.”
“You can just stay like that. Whatever makes you comfortable, this is your home after all,” Hoseok spits out, his face aflame with a feeling he isn't ready to admit to yet.
Namjoon laughs, flushing even darker but sits down on the couch, motioning for Hoseok to do the same. “Would you like to join me for breakfast? I was just in the middle of making it.”
Hoseok is about to decline when his stomach growls and he frowns down at it, confused about why he'd be hungry again when he ate before he came here. Namjoon chuckles and stands up, wordlessly telling Hoseok to follow him into the kitchen. And he follows, half-expecting to find a bubbling cauldron on the fire, but instead, there's only a normal stovetop keeping the newly made scrambled eggs and bacon warm.
Namjoon serves them quickly, setting two plates down on the table and then disappearing down the hall, reappearing only a moment later with a shirt on.
(Hoseok quietly bemoans the loss of his amazing view while Namjoon pretends not to notice.)
They eat then, Hoseok’s stomach quickly becoming full as Namjoon sets out french toast on the table, along with glasses of milk. Good food and a good mood is Hoseok's motto in life and Namjoon is definitely fulfilling it right now.
When they're done, Namjoon ushers Hoseok into the living room then goes back to the kitchen to put their plates in the sink and wipe down the table before he returns and takes a seat in the armchair. Hoseok fidgets on the couch, playing with his fingers as an awkward feeling begins to engulf him.
“So,” Namjoon starts steadily, his expression calm and open, reigning in a nervous and fidgety Hoseok. “What is the reason for your visit today?”
Hoseok looks down at his hands, eyes following the way his nimble fingers move. “Iーuh, I was told you were the person I had to see if I had a wish.”
“That is correct.” Namjoon nods and smiles again, his dimples wrinkling his cheeks. “So then, you have a wish, don't you?”
“Yeah, um,” Hoseok hesitates, biting his lip as he mulls over his words. “Er, so I-I’ve been trying to grow a garden in my backyard for a year now butー”
“But you've been unsuccessful so far?” Namjoon asks, still smiling when Hoseok nods shyly. “Ah. That won't be a problem, but. I’m sure you were informed about my fee?”
Hoseok nods, chancing a look up and automatically smiling when he sees Namjoon’s wide grin. “A secret for a wish. Right? That's what Seokjin told me.”
Namjoon’s eyes light up at the mention of the older man’s name, his smiling growing even larger with excitement. “Seokjin sent you? How has he been?”
“Good, he's been good,” Hoseok replies automatically, feeling a little warmer now that they're on an easier subject. “He had the flu a little while ago, but I made sure that he rested and took his medicine so that he could get better. So he's fine, thank you for asking.”
“That's great to hear,” Namjoon says, all dimples and smiles. Then he pauses and tilts his head carefully, his grin a little more subdued now. “So. Your garden. What kind of secret would you be willing to trade to get it?”
Hoseok blinks rapidly, trying to think of a secret that might be good enough. “What kind of secret would you accept?”
Namjoon taps his chin thoughtfully, mulling over whatever is running through his head and Hoseok begins to sweat as he waits for a response. “Any kind. Something not even Seokjin knows, perhaps?”
Hoseok swallows, the perfect secret springing to his mind immediately as soon as Namjoon had finished speaking. His hands begin to shake, but Namjoon is a perfect stranger who grants wishes and treated Hoseok to breakfast. Telling him this won't kill him, after all.
So he steadies himself and wipes his sweaty palms on his thighs, braving a look back up to meet Namjoon’s eyes. Namjoon's gaze is inviting and secure, wordlessly promising to take whatever secret Hoseok spills to the grave and that's all the reassurance that Hoseok needed.
“I’m depressed. Clinically, I mean. I see my therapist once a week and I might start taking antidepressants soon too, but I’m unsure of that at the moment. I haven't told anyone, I feel like they just won't understand or they'll start avoiding me like the plague. I don't know, I just. Whenever I think of telling Seokjin, I get scared because I feel that he just won't understand and will only give me pity instead of the support that I need. And I know that it's shitty of me to think so badly of my best friend, but he has his life going for him and I don't. We're too different sometimes that I just don't feel ready to tell him anything yet,” Hoseok says in a rush, his chest feeling lighter and lighter as he continues to speak all while Namjoon stares at him. “I want a garden because flowers make me happy and if I gain even just a little piece of happiness throughout my day by looking at my garden, then maybe it’ll be easier for me to fight this. I'm grasping at straws right now because I have no idea what might or might not happen, but if I just had stick ー if I just had a stick, I know I could keep on going.”
Silence accompanies them when Hoseok finishes speaking, but he never once lets his gaze falter and Namjoon doesn't look away either. They stare into each other's eyes for what feels like a millennium and only a few seconds at the same time. It's a little disorienting, but Hoseok will persevere.
Namjoon is still smiling, but it's smaller and more of a comfort than an invitation now and his eyes are watery, but when he blinks, the glaze is gone and there's determination taking its place. Hoseok doesn't even realize that he's leaning forward until his hand slips on his knees and he almost falls face first into the coffee table. Namjoon laughs, which causes Hoseok to laugh nervously and then they're staring at each other again.
“When you get home, water your garden. Come spring, you'll have flowers,” Namjoon whispers between them.
Hoseok nods, not knowing what to say, but it's very clear that he's being dismissed.
He stands and bids his farewell, even shaking Namjoon's hand once he’s at the door. Namjoon smiles at him, waving from his front door as Hoseok gets into his car.
It isn't until he's turned the car on that Namjoon yells something, a piece of advice that Hoseok can barely hear over the roar of his engine. But he smiles anyway and nods, waving back at the magical man.
He drives home, still thinking of Namjoon waving at him from his door, yelling out words that Hoseok didn't know he needed to hear.
When he gets home, he waters his garden and coos at the plots of soil, still thinking of Namjoon’s smile and his dimples. Of his warmth and security. His delicious food. Namjoon.
When he goes to bed later that day, it's with Namjoon still echoing in his mind.
I think you should tell Seokjin.
When spring comes, Hoseok’s garden is in full bloom ー as is Hoseok’s relationship with Namjoon.

⇢ day three of namseok week 2018
"So you and Joon, huh? Finally."
Hoseok startles up from his lunch, eyes meeting Yoongi's and becoming puzzled by the relieved expression on his face. "Huh?"
Yoongi rolls his eyes, reaching out to tug on the rolled up sleeve of Hoseok's hoodie. "That's his hoodie, isn't it? I know it's his. No one else would wear something that blatantly yellow and be able to get away with it."
Hoseok looks down at his hoodie, pushing the sleeve up his arm again so he can continue to eat unbothered. Eventually, he shrugs, not really understanding what Yoongi meant in the first place. It's normal for friends to borrow each other's clothes. Perfectly normal.
Or at least, that's what Hoseok had told himself when he'd woken up pressed against Namjoon in the younger's dorm room, their chests touching one another's and their breaths intermingling in the air between them. Namjoon hadn't woken up when Hoseok prodded him in the arm, claiming he had no classes today and so Hoseok had let him sleep. He had rolled over the younger, taking care to not let Namjoon bear most of his weight as he did, then Hoseok had pulled the hoodie on as he left, taking a moment to take a deep inhale of Namjoon's scent on the soft material once he'd closed the door to Namjoon's dorm room behind him. He'd ushered off to Literature class afterward, almost late but managed to make it right on time.
Since then, he's gone through two of his morning classes and is now enjoying his hour and a half lunch before he rushes to the last class of his day. He'll admit to sniffing the hoodie throughout the morning because with how good Namjoon smells, it's pretty hard not to, but he won't admit to enjoying the way the long sleeves of Namjoon's hoodie fall past his knuckles and gift him with sweater paws that usually make Hoseok weak in the knees whenever Namjoon's sporting them.
They're cute, obviously, but they're more of Namjoon's thing than his actually.
Anyway, back to Yoongi.
"Yeah. It's his," Hoseok mumbles, taking a bite out of his sandwich, chewing then swallowing it before he adds, "So what?"
Yoongi blinks, his relieved expression morphing into one of caution instead. "Nothing. I'm just glad Namjoon finally confessed is all."
Hoseok takes a moment to make sure that he heard Yoongi correctly. When the words only seem to echo in his head, he notches it to the side and looks up to stare at the elder again. "I'm sorry. What? Confess?"
"Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about," Yoongi sniffs, indifferent until the look of confusion in Hoseok's eyes doesn't lessen. "Wait ー shit ー don't tell me he didn'tー"
Hoseok is pretty sure that he's never seen Yoongi's eyes that big or that panicked before, but he doesn't get a chance to tease the elder for it because suddenly there's a very familiar presence standing behind Hoseok and a warm hand on his shoulder as the seat beside him is dragged out. Yoongi's mouth closes with a sharp snap that must've hurt the elder and he ducks his head as Namjoon takes his seat beside Hoseok, his lunch of carrot chips, bubble tea and two sandwiches already on the table before them.
"'Sup guys?" Namjoon asks, already tearing into his lunch before he's even finished speaking.
Yoongi mutters something about a forgotten project under his breath then grabs the rest of his lunch, dumps it and leaves Hoseok and Namjoon to themselves. Namjoon looks after him with a puzzled look on his face, then turns to pin Hoseok with it.
"Something wrong with hyung? He left in a hurry," Namjoon says, one brow arched in question.
Hoseok shrugs, not really sure about what just happened himself but happy to still have company as he finishes his lunch. "I don't know. He was saying some weird stuff before you got here."
"Like what?"
Namjoon's mouth is full of sandwich at this point, but when Hoseok looks up to answer he finds that the words die in his throat as a sudden realization dawns upon him. His mouth is probably hanging open and it must be weird because Namjoon is giving him a concerned look now, but Hoseok's only paying attention to the epiphany he's experiencing right now.
And then oh, that explains a lot.
Hoseok tilts his head to the side to study Namjoon, watching the way the younger keeps looking at his mouth before trailing down to his stolen hoodie then back up again. And yeah, okay, Hoseok's an idiot sometimes when it comes to feelings, but honestly, he should've noticed the way that Namjoon is incredibly in love with him a long time ago.
Namjoon clears his throat when Hoseok still hasn't said anything and the elder hastens to reply, then, hoping with all hope that he's right.
"He asked if you had finally confessed, and you know, it didn't make sense at first when he asked me, but looking at you looking at me makes me see what hyung was talking about and I don't expect this to change anything between us, but I just wanted you to know thatー ARE YOU CHOKING?" Hoseok's spiel is cut short when he notices that Namjoon is hunched over, thumping his chest repeatedly as he coughs harshly, his entire frame shaking with the force of it.
Hoseok beats his back then guides Namjoon into an upright position where he can properly make the younger drink some water to help wash the sandwich down. Namjoon swallows it roughly, looking as if it's a great feat, but Hoseok doesn't let himself smile in reassurance until Namjoon's leaning back in his chair, now wary of the food in front of him.
They don't say anything for a few moments, but Hoseok intends to get this over with right now because he's been pining after Namjoon for years, too blind to notice that the younger had been pining after him right back and really, it's high past time they got their shit together.
"So before you so rudely interrupted me with your choking, I was trying to tell you that I think we should date," Hoseok huffs out, pretending to be annoyed by Namjoon's antics.
Namjoon blinks, ducking his head as a blush blossoms across his cheeks. "Um."
Hoseok leans forward into his space, not close enough to be uncomfortable but enough that it'll get Namjoon's full attention on him. "You like me, right? I like you. Kind of been in love with you since we graduated high school actually."
Namjoon sputters, mumbling something under his breath that Hoseok has to ask him to repeat. "Of course I like you. I've loved you since middle school."
Hoseok leans in closer, Namjoon's scent growing stronger as he approaches him. "So, we should date. I mean, I look cute in your clothes, don't I? And aren't you supposed to wear your boyfriend's hoodies when you're in a relationship? We're already halfway there then."
Hoseok is practically vibrating with excitement, his inner self cooing at the adorable way Namjoon flushes a darker pink while toying with his fingers. It's cute, Namjoon is cute and Hoseok thought he'd be scared and afraid when he last thought of confessing, but right now, he's just happy. Happy and excited and positively vibrating in his seat with joy.
Eventually, Namjoon reaches out and takes Hoseok's hand in his, nodding shyly as he peers up into Hoseok's face to meet his steady gaze. "Yeah, I guess we're already there."
Hoseok whoops loudly in the cafeteria, uncaring of the dirty looks other students shoot them and kisses Namjoon's cheeks once the younger has pulled him back into his seat. The tips of Namjoon's ears start to flush red then and Hoseok smiles.
Sweater paws are more Namjoon's style, but Hoseok won't miss an opportunity to wear his boyfriend's hoodies now that they're really together, after all this time, instead of dancing around each other and their feelings like they've been doing since they were teenagers.
And, hopefully, they'll stay together for a long time to come as well.

Namjoon’s favorite smile of Hoseok’s is when you can see his cute dimples.
Mostly because they're cute, but really because Hoseok only smiles like that when he's actually trying to be cute or is surprised but still happy.
It's Namjoon's favorite smile.
It's like a fresh breath of air to a Namjoon who has only been breathing in polluted air his entire life. Like sunlight shining on his face after a year of heavy rain. The relief of finishing a project. The color yellow. Happiness personified. Sunflowers. Sweet iced tea and porch swings. A house out in the country where he and Hoseok grow old and raise two kids and four dogs.
It's Hoseok. It's really, truly Hoseok and it feels like comfort whenever Namjoon manages to catch a glimpse of that smile.
And right now, Hoseok is wearing it. They're walking down the hallway to Yoongi's studio, eye-rolling at his cat doormat while Hoseok stops to light the candles on the cake they brought.
Hoseok is happy and cute as he hums the birthday song under his breath, signaling for Namjoon to pull his phone out and record what comes next.
And Namjoon does, because when Hoseok is smiling at him like that, it's too hard to say no.
