Nemo should’ve been happy. Should’ve been ecstatic, even. He was free. Back with his father. Safe. Something about that word felt wrong, though. He’d spent the last few years locked up; constantly fearing for his life. Whether he’d be taking his last breath any time soon. Thoughts that children certainly shouldn’t have to suffer through. And who’s fault was it? Nemo wouldn’t say. He’d never dare blame his father, but deep down? He couldn’t quite shake the feeling that the trust lost was gone forever.
He sat right where his father had put him, shaking hands clinging to the blanket draped over his back. He had yet to speak. Truthfully, he didn’t know what to say. Part of him almost felt like being rescued was some sort of dream and he’d surely be soon to wake up. The very thought made him nibble on the bottom of his lip.
