The S.A.S. began in the 2nd World War as a small experiment that grew in odd ways from its beginning.   This is a just under a  hagiographic look at the early formation of the S.A.S. and its evolution during the 2nd World War.   It doesn’t deal with its history in Northern Ireland and elsewhere except for what is included in biographical notes for key players in its development and growth.  It is a good book of focused military history and gives some useful insights into  the development of (in modern times) of a new unit of specialised military service.
