When you met Atlas, you thought you’d met him a hundred times before. A man in a nice suit and a taste for expensive alcohol; you saw dozens of his type come around every night. But after a bar brawl broke out and he ducked behind you the entire time, you were surprised that the coward found you after the carnage and offered you the ticket you’d been waiting for. At first, you met him sparingly—a few odd jobs here and there. But over the course of nearly twenty or so years, you’ve come to accept that Atlas is here to stay. You almost have no choice in the matter; the man hasn’t aged a day since you met, and you’re certain that you will be looking at that same youthful face until the end of your days. You don’t mind it, of course. You’ve found your kindred spirit in a dramatic man with a collection of colorful ties, who drinks alcohol like water, and who looks at you like he understands the view of the universe from your eyes.

DIAMOND: 

Diamond deserves everything she has going for her—except, of course, that she’s trapped leading dangerous missions after being raised in what is essentially a giant lab known as the Cherish. If you were in her place, you would’ve already found a way to run away and maybe kill a scientist or two, but Diamond takes her responsibilities too seriously to consider her needs, or even use her mutation to harm others, which is such a waste. You’re all tasked with the heroic act of saving worlds from certain, painful destruction, but you’d let a couple of planets come to their early apocalypse if it meant you could lead a semblance of a normal life instead of following Maverick’s grand plan. You feel the same about all of the Supernova Girls—Honey, too—but you can only watch and follow along as they devote themselves to the greater good and forgo thinking too hard about their questionable upbringing, which makes you lose your mind a little.

LOOP:

As someone who isn’t known for his professionalism, you have no sensitive workplace qualms about admitting that you can’t stand that little shit. Loop’s silly pranks and low-tier schemes are harmless at the end of the day, but it doesn’t make you want to strangle them any less. You know you’re an easy target—that’s always been your deal—but you can’t help the vein that threatens to burst on your temple when you’re staring down one of their shit-eating grins. They laugh too loudly and can’t sit still, and part of you is fully aware that you judge them for being objectively good-natured; perhaps for being the most virtuous among the lot of you. You sense genuine innocence from them; something like childlike wonder still shines bright within them, along with a wholesome desire to make everyone laugh and keep the crew in high spirits, but they're so bad at reading the room that you would jump at the opportunity to leave them behind somewhere.

STARRY:

You’ve known Fang for roughly twenty or so years. You met during a bar brawl in an unimpressive bar you once found yourself in while doing some business in her home world. She was working there as security, and witnessing the swift way she dealt with and handled hostile drunkards moved you to cower behind her, seeking safety under her oddly violent protection. Since then, the two of you have worked together on and off. You’re a pair of few words but thousands of meaningful looks. She’s remained in your life for a significant number of years, which is unusual for someone who lives life as fast and loose as you do. You’ve stumbled upon a rare kind of partnership, and one of your demands to Maverick for joining the expedition was hiring Starry as the crew’s security detail. In this wide and endless universe, she’s the first person you associate the word ‘trust’ with.

BLOSSOM: 

Boredom finds you easily, and Blossom has always been eager to join in when you seek to cure your restlessness. As children, she ran right behind you during your forbidden adventures around the Cherish. The two of you were inseparable, and the traumatic ordeal of your training only solidified your bond. You weren’t raised in the same unit by chance, you were placed together due to your mutations. You were the only person her mutation could interact with without the risk of killing you, and yet you felt each death acutely. Nothing compares to Blossom’s touch—it’s not a peaceful loss of energy and life-force—it’s painful, slow, like all of you is getting drained at once, the way a mortician might flush blood from a corpse. She’s always carried guilt that you wish you could erase. It’s cheesy that you consider her your soulmate, but she anchors you without meaning to, giving you a place to land that you can tether yourself to when you’re feeling restless and jittery.

MERCY:

Dealing with Mercy’s attitude is a walk in the park. You enjoy it, you seek it out, you come back with a bruise sometimes. She was a mystery before you met her: the girl who had to be raised alone because of how much she wanted to hurt you all. It was framed much more clinically to you, but that was the general gist of the situation back then. Her hostility upon joining the main unit was no surprise, but unlike the rest of the girls, you’ve never walked on eggshells around her. Her edges—which are blunt and sharp at once—are fun to play with. She gets on your nerves almost as often as you get on hers, but at the end of the day, you’re genuinely fond of her and her bizarre aggression. You’re just not willing to be pushed around by her, or to let her get away with pushing everyone else around, unless, of course, it suits your interests. You’re aware of the incredible patience and restraint she musters when you mess with her by now, which is how you’ve learned exactly how hard to push her buttons.

LOOP: 

Loop feels like the answer to the question of what would happen if one of your duplicates separated for good and went on to live its own life. The two of you are so alike that it feels like staring into a mirror when you look at them. You have the same sense of humor, the same affinity for schemes and pranks, and the same carefree attitude. You’ve become attached at the hip—the other hip that Blossom doesn’t occupy—where trouble is, the two of you are, and Blossom is somewhere along getting away with it. The biggest difference is in your temper. While you’re quick to lose yours, Loop never loses theirs. They've got incredible nerve, which is something you would admire if you didn’t find yourself on the receiving end of their schemes and pranks sometimes. Loop’s loyalty and devotion to shenanigans is admittedly greater than yours, which is why—despite being so similar—the two of you often fight like children.
