DIMPLE KAPADIA in SAAGAR (1985)
watched saagar (1985) and wow, what a film. the story was nothing special (rich boy loves poor girl + love triangle) but the main leads gave great performances and were all extremely likeable. these characters were well-developed, refreshing, and had natural chemistry. i really felt for all 3 of them when they were going through shit.
i like how the heroine's best friend didn't feel entitled to her love (unlike some people) just because he knew her since childhood, something multiple characters pointed out to justify why they should have been a couple.
he respected that she loved someone else - the person in question being this character's friend and not rival (for once) - and did whatever he could to help them be together. surprisingly, a very selfless character for the 80s.
dimple was sooo gorgeous and i loved her wardrobe. the hair on that woman, omg. rishi was sweet but kamal haasan stole the show. he was just too good.
shoutout to the cinematography, which was gorgeous. every scene dimple was in looked like a painting! the ending was rushed and predictable, but i enjoyed this film. it just felt otherworldly.

Saagar is directed by Ramesh Sippy. The film stars Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia along with Kamal Hassan.
Saagar was a comeback film for Dimple Kapadia. Saagar was India's official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1985. This was the second instance in the history of Filmfare Awards where an actor has been nominated for both Best Actor as well as Best Actor in Supporting role, the previous nominee for both awards was Ashok Kumar (for Aashirwad in 1970). Kamal Hassan ultimately won the Best Actor award, his first and only award in that category for a Hindi film.
