A Gongjin kind of place in San Jose, Camarines Sur (ft. Tagas Boulevard and Sabang Port)
After watching Hometown Cha Cha Cha, I guess that we all yearn for a Gongjin kind of place. We fell in love with Gongjin because it is more than just a beautiful place where the two destined to be lovers Hong Du Sik and Yoon Hye Jin met. It was because it was actually a place of healing for all of us as we also get to know the stories of the other Gongjin residents. We might have related with some of the characters both the main and secondary characters which is why a fan of the drama like me is probably having a hard time moving on without it.
We might have Romantic Sunday on repeat in our Spotify playlist along with other HomeCha OSTs as we waited for 10pm to tune in every weekend night on Netflix for the airing of the episode in Philippine time. We are already on the second weekend since it has ended. How can we move on from a very good Kdrama? For my case, I cannot entirely move on until I watch a new Kdrama that can touch my heart and bring me healing the way this one did. I think that one thing that makes Hometown Cha Cha Cha as the best Kdrama for this year is probably because it was a well-written story with characters to relate with. Moreover, I love how they realistically portrayed the realities of life. They handled well the portrayal of sensitive topics like mental illness, depression, suicide, about coming out, relationships, marriage, divorce, forgiveness, growing old and dying.
The attachment from the Kdrama is real. All viewers who tuned in knows what I mean. Don’t we all wish that we can find a Gongjin kind of place that brings us love, peace and healing? As I also went home for the holidays for the All Saint’s and All Soul’s Day, I visited my hometown, Goa. I didn’t actually grew up here but it is my father’s hometown and my to-go place on holidays for vacation. But who knew that just a few kilometers from Goa, lies a small quite town which can give you a Gongjin kind of place?
Tagas Boulevard is located in Barangay Tagas, San Jose, Camarines Sur. It is one of the newest attraction in the 4th District of Camarines Sur, also known as the Partido District. This is an ongoing infrastructure project this year that has also recently drawn not just the attention of people in Partido but also tourists despite the pandemic. Although it currently inaccessible to vehicles yet, this has been the to-go place of some people working out, joggers, cyclists, photographers and local tourists.
One of the good thing here is that they are using renewable energy because all of the lights or lamp posts are solar powered. It is actually one of the trends in the other countries. It is a good thing that we are catching up. The lamp posts are what actually gives is a South Korean vibe in this spot. With this long and beautiful infrastructure situated near the seashore, does it looks familiar? It resembles a part of Gongjin doesn’t it?
You can actually also go down near the seashore. Some even go for a swim too and some fishermen go for some fishing. Since the boulevard is still under construction and being extended until who knows where it will lead us, there are no restrictions about what is allowed or restricted in these areas. But it is open for all.
Tagas is actually a Bicol term which means “hard” or “strong”. With this newly built infrastructure, may it upheld its name and stay strong as it now becomes a witness to the lives of the locals, tourists, travelers and passerby of Partido.
The Sabang Port is located in Barangay Sabang, San Jose, Camarines Sur. This is the gateway to Caramoan Islands which is very well-known for its pristine and fine white sand beaches. This is where people planning to visit Caramoan would usually take a boat for sea travel going there. Also, it is a fishing pier where different kinds of freshly fished out sea foods are also being sold before some of it will be brought to the public market of San Jose and nearby municipalities in Patrtido district.
The rocks forming a bridge-like path towards the sea actually is a good spot for photoshoot. It actually also reminds me a scene from the 2016 Kdrama, Goblin where Ji Eun Tak sadly celebrates her birthday alone then blows a candle as she makes a wish and accidentally summoned the Goblin for the first time. Aside from that, this part is very scenic that it also resembles the fictional town of Gongjin in Hometown Cha Cha Cha.
As I visited this two places, it makes me think about settling in this kind of place, a quiet and simple life. Wouldn’t be nice to leave near the sea? Like Yoon Hye Jin, I might be a city girl who loves a life of luxury and have big dreams but being in these kind of places that brings peace, healing and happiness is worth more than luxury.
I may not have a Hong Du Sik/ Hong Banjang like Yoon Hye Jin but who knows if there is Hong Banjang kind of person here too? Not that I am hoping to find one but finding a Gongjin kind of place is already enough bring me the peace and healing that I needed at the moment.
