I love your metas soooo much and I love that even when you answer asks you have little facts in them. Since you have a lot of general hunter x hunter knowledge, I was wondering if you knew why the 1999 version and the 2011 version have different
Colors? Like hisoka has blue hair and killuas red tank top in 2011 was yellow in the 1999 version? This has always been a mystery for me Did they just not ask Togashi during the production of 1999 or was it truely what he wanted

I have actually wondered about this too!
My guess is, at the time of 1999′s release date, there wasn’t enough full color artwork by Togashi so the character designer(s) at Nippon Animation (studio that made 1999) just made guesses (the manga was only out to volume 5, so Killua and Hisoka hadn’t been on a cover yet by the time 1999 aired).
Also, even out of the full color artwork illustrated by Togashi, the color schemes of even the main characters can vary drastically. For instance:

So Nippon Animation probably took liberties with the colors choices – because they didn’t have a choice, lol.
As for the alternative outfits, like Killua’s tank top during the Yorknew arc, I don’t think there’s any fully colored artwork from Togashi for any of those (?) so it was probably just a matter of preference by the studios.
But that is just my guess! I love the idea that Madhouse just looked at 1999 and shook their heads, hahaha.
