"I'd tell you not to put yourself in danger," he says, "but I know you better than that."
I bite my lip, suddenly self-conscious. "You're worried?"
He scoffs. "Never. You are the danger. Any person who doesn't see that deserves what's coming to them."
Fuck, those stupid tears are back.

Dire Bound spoilers ahead
Guys guys guys why was Dire Bound so good?! I just finished reading it last night and like AAAAHHHHHGGGGGHHHH! GIMME THE NEXT ONE RIGHT NOW!!!
Istg I felt so horrible that I wasn't vibing with Killian the entire time. I was so damned guilty towards the end before shit hit the fan because I was like, "What if he's been so genuine and nice the entire time and it's just a me problem?" I was rooting for Stark the entire time and I thought I was being unfair to Killian.
I even felt so bad when Stark and Meryn went to the front and Meryn had the urge to kiss him during that tattoo scene. Because I was like "gurl you're emotionally cheating pls" 😭 and this is after the fact that I hated on The Poison Daughter because the MMC has been so ready to cheat on the FMC (his fiancée during that time). Honestly, I might have to elaborate on The Poison Daughter scene in a rant post soon 😭
But after those last few chapters? FUCK KILLIAN!! THE ABSOLUTE NERVE OF THIS GUY!
The way I'd initially thought the private room and the dress were from Stark but then Killian took credit for it and I was like, "Damn. Maybe I'm really not being nice by not giving him a chance." But like ?????? This MF actually took credit for things he didn't do?
And what do you mean Stark pulled a Cardan Greenbriar and got a dress for Meryn for the ball? Like hello, do we all remember when Cardan got that dress made for Jude in The Cruel Prince and it was so meaningful because fucking Taryn stole the dress Jude wanted? My heart pls 😭😭😭
Dire Bound is a dark, action‑packed romantasy that has taken the fantasy community by storm with its mix of brutal trials, magical creatures, and emotional tension. The story is set in a world where elite warriors known as the Bonded form telepathic links with massive direwolves, becoming the kingdom’s fiercest fighters. The protagonist, Meryn Cooper, has always lived in poverty while others thrive in luxury, but everything changes when her younger sister, Saela, is kidnapped across enemy lines. Desperate to save her, Meryn enlists in the army — only to discover that this year’s enlistment includes the deadly Bonding Trials, where survival isn’t guaranteed.
The book blends high‑stakes training, court danger, and romantic tension as Meryn is forced to bond with a feral direwolf that refuses to communicate and navigate challenges that could kill her at any moment. Alongside this physical danger is a slow‑burn connection with Crown Prince Killian Valtiere, whose interest in her complicates everything and adds emotional depth to the plot.
Fans often praise Dire Bound for its fast pacing, immersive world‑building, and intense fantastical elements, comparing it to Fourth Wing for its trials and survival arc. However, reception is mixed: some readers enjoy the romance and competition, while others find certain plot twists predictable or the pacing uneven in places.
Overall, Dire Bound is an engaging, trope‑rich fantasy with direwolves, deadly tests, and emotional tension — perfect if you like romantasy with strong adventure elements.

Am I the only one irritated with direbound? I kept hearing such great things about this book but honestly? wtf. 😬
I cannot for the life of me get into this book. The fmc is just…not.. it. You know from the get the dude she’s with is not it. I’m 90% through the book because I don’t like to DNF stuff, but I should have DNF’d.
Ugh
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my twenty-three years alive, it’s this: women in pain give men confidence. It stirs up something instinctive, deep inside of them, that makes them believe they have the upper hand, even if every logical piece of evidence screams at them they do not. Confidence makes men sloppy. And sloppy men are easy targets.
Sable Sorensen, Direbound
"Are you well?" she asks.
The genuine concern in her voice takes me by surprise.
"I'm fine," I answered, hoping she can't read the truth in my feelings. "I just had a nightmare."
The lie tastes bitter on my tongue. I can tell Anassa doesn't totally buy it, but she doesn't argue.
"Well, go back to sleep," she says. "You're keeping me up."
