Sacking Out
When it comes to Sacking out your horse, I find that it works best to use the pressure and release method. Put on the pressure until you get a reaction, release the pressure and pat your horse. This instills confidence in your horse and trust, unlike the “cowboy” method of tying one leg up so they cant run away. I find that the P&R method makes for a less spooky horse and a more trusting relationship with your equine partner.

Now, with sacking out, you, as the trainer, need to think outside of the box. Whether you are riding on the roads, in arenas, through busy streets, or back trails, your horse can and will encounter “scary” things. Its best to prepare your horse for all of them.
> Each object is something new, and sometimes, a new color of an object can be scary. Everything from bikes, motor vehicles, gun shots, children, clapping, car horns, flags, banners, signs, lights, bridges, cracks in roads, roadkill, tarps, etc. It is all new and scary, but it doesnt have to be! Your horse will thank you, and you will thank yourself for preparing your horse. Nothing better than having a calm horse no matter where you ride!
