Notes: Canon divergent story where David and Matteo didn’t get back together...yet. This is angsty but I love the relationships and the hopefulness.

Sneak Peak:

He was twenty now. Realistically, nothing has changed – he was still a picky-eater, he still left his bed unmade, he still didn’t know how to cook, but at the same time he felt older, maybe not wiser, but changed. He was no longer a sad and angry teenager.

No, David was a proper adult now. He had a job, he was in his second year of university and he was even living on his own now.

He was an adult and he was happy. Well, almost happy. But, he thought whatever he was feeling was normal, because who hasn’t been bit lost while they were in their twenties? He wasn’t sure who told him that. It was either Laura or his therapist.

Huh. Normal. He didn’t think he would ever feel like that.

Summary:

Matteo realised that he hadn't thought things through. Going to Italy and dealing with his homophobic family was bad enough, but also having David, his best friend and crush of two years, there pretending to be his boyfriend was even worse. He really knew how to make his life unnecessarily difficult.

Amira was the only smart friend he had. Why did she let him do this?

Notes: The summary really says it all, angsty pretend relationship goodness with lots of pining and (of course!) a happy ending. It’s definitely a favorite of mine. (Bonus Spoiler: both of them seeing the other interact with a kid and basically falling in love even more)

Sneak Peak:

His hands were no longer holding his wrists, but had slipped down, to intertwine their fingers. Matteo was trying to figure out who that person could be, but he couldn’t concentrate. Sometimes Matteo thought that David knew about his feelings. That he knew how much Matteo was willing to do for him, how affected he was just by being close to him. And that was why David did shit like this on purpose. Staying close to Matteo, touching him a lot, hugging him, holding his hands. It wasn’t fair. He had just woken up and David was right here, looking too good. Maybe it was because he was still a bit sleepy which lowered his inhibitions, but his gaze dropped to his lips. David just tilted his head, one eyebrow raised.
