past
Sage Park grew up under the name of Park Soobin. Their parents were first generation immigrants from South Korea, and once they settled into their new home in Delaware, they had three kids. Sage was the middle child, with an older brother and younger sister. Both of Sage’s siblings were incredibly popular growing up; their brother being very successful in school athletics and their sister, as beautiful and kind as a princess, never had any problems making friends. However, childhood for Sage was very hard. They had loving parents and their siblings never teased them too much. But they never felt right. Sage was expected to be just as girly as their little sister, who loved shopping and makeup. And some days, those things did interest Sage. But there were other days when all they wanted to do was sit on the couch and watch Top Gear with their older brother and listen to him talk about how pretty girls were with his friends. More than anything, they didn’t understand why they had to choose between one or the other. Why couldn’t they just enjoy what they chose to?
Because of this, Sage struggled to understand themself. Once they graduated high school, they went to a college out of the state, reveling in the time they had away from their family and to start understanding themself. Joining a queer club a their university was eye-opening. They realized they felt much more comfortable using pronouns that weren’t attached to a specific gender, and even felt their name that was given to them at birth to be a bit constricting. Making these changes in their life felt good, but they were still terrified to show this side of them to their family. Instead, they chose the easy way out, graduating from college with a degree in computer science and moved practically to the other side of the country. They had gotten a good job in Seattle right after college and used that as the excuse for the big move. In reality, they were terrified to explain to their parents how they truly felt and found it easier to get readjusted and comfortable with themself first.
present
While Sage was growing up, there was one thing that they didn’t need to understand themself to learn, and that was code. It started out writing MineCraft codes when they were in middle school. It spread to video games with more complicated and intense codes, and before long, they were studying how to code entire softwares. Going to college, it was a no brainer for Sage to choose computer science as their major, and the course load of their computer classes kept their mind off of things they’d rather not think about about. Now in Seattle, Sage works for a banking business, making sure their softwares and databases are up-kept and running smoothly. While they work full time at this position, Sage enjoys picking up small coding jobs here and there that are irrelevant to their work. When incredibly overwhelmed, they can be found throwing themself into their work as a way of de-stressing.
personality
Sage can be incredibly timid around people. While they have learned to completely accept themself, they are weary of letting people in in fear of not being accepted. Because of this, they give short and quiet responses to anyone they are not acquainted with. When it comes to those they are acquainted with, Sage is incredibly caring and attentive to their friends’ feelings. When it comes to their work, Sage has a tendency to be controlling, as they have become a perfectionist with their coding (even if a ‘perfect code’ never truly exists). They have trouble taking constructive criticism of their work, sometimes taking it personally when someone tries to help.
