Spread the positivity

So this scene got me thinking....

In this scene, after the kid is saved, he tells his mom that “This oniichan is wearing a mask”

I was prepared to see one of those festival masks of demons or cats or whatnot but then I saw this

His face looked completely normal... devoid of emotions but normal... when the men beating up Dororo noticed him, they said he looked like a doll and I get why they thought so but I still felt it was kind of normal...

Then this happened

In this scene I was really confused why he placed the blade in his mouth when it’s already attached to his arm. Was he pulling something off it? Checking it for cracks? Adjusting its place? I had lost of questions... but then this scene occurred...

And that’s when it clicked, that scene where he was fighting on the bridge, he wasn’t pulling something off the blade, checking it for cracks or adjusting its place, he was pushing the mask back into place so it wouldn’t slip off mid fight. The care for details put into the anime, as always, is very formidable as every move added into the sequence was well calculated, contributes greatly to the story and offers a detail that could be overlooked easily as unimportant. This is the main reason why I love anime. The details. They are so magnificent, carefully thought of and very well put. Not a single detail is put to waste. 

Notice how in the last gif, the skin color that spread through his face is different from that on his nose, the one on his nose is a shade or so lighter which proves that his skin was the first organ to be returned and it returned alone since he’s still lacking a nose. This show has so much potential and the new art style coupled with the pale color palettes used gives off a sadder, ominous and more serious tone to the anime which I feel enhances the story more compared to the old style of the manga. The manga has a much lighter tone with the dialogues and the art style making it refreshing but the new take on the story by making it more ominous makes the watcher (at least me) more engaged with the story instead of kinda turning it into gag. I’m not saying the original manga was bad, in fact, it was fun to read and had its funny moments, I’m just saying that with some story-lines a more serious and ominous approach would improve it and make it more engaging. At least that’s what I think, everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and I’m just stating mine on things.

So I’m back with more details..... (5/5)

Continuing from the previous post, we’re back with Jukai still giving prosthetics to the dead, and apparently these prosthetics include masks too

I’m not even sure what killed the poor man but his body is in mangles and that’s just nasty. Notice how in this specific frame, we actually find out our hero’s name, Hyakkimaru, said while looking at that mask. And the frame exactly after this one is:

Hyakkimaru’s mask. Can I just give a shout out here to the animators? I mean come on, not even a single frame is wasted. You did a great job, animators team 👌🏻 Anyway, I want you to concentrate on the mask, the nose part is cute out. That’s probably a modification Jukai added after dining out that the regular masks without the cut out prove to be bothersome and/or faulty.

Next scene up is:

Daigo’s wife, watching the raining sky with a sad expression even though her son, Tahomaru, just promised to make her a dinner from his first hunt.

She’s remembering when her cruel husband took away her newborn child and casted the poor soul away. I think there isn’t a day that passes by in her life that she doesn’t remember that...

Then the scene focuses on the statue again, but this time, closes up on the child in the deity’s arm, with the cation “My dear son”. This shows how much she’s grieving as a mother. How much she sees what her husband has done as cruel. How much she misses the poor boy that wouldn’t have lived longer if he’d stayed in her arms. She’s a truly kind character and carries an amount of love in her that’s great. I can’t wait to see her during the reunion. And I hope Daigo dies soon for causing her and poor Hyakkimaru such suffering....

Moving on. Back in this scene:

The poor boy’s trying to feel his skin. He can’t believe he got the skin back. He’s gaping in awe as he rubs his skin. Now he can feel those prosthetics with the skin on his face. Poor boy, my heart is breaking for him... Daigo, you worthless piece of #######.

Anyway, lol and behold,

The blink. Do you guys know how important this is?

This is the very first time he blinks in his life. This is when he actually discovers he actually has eyelids and they can move. Do you know how significant this is???

Continuing from the previous post, here’s Hyakkimaru (again):

I couldn’t help but notice the wrist movement here... He pushed the blade up with his wrist, not his hand... and this isn’t the only scene where he resorts to using other body parts instead of opting to use his hand like here:

But let me point out something in shod specific screenshot (that I’ll get to later), the elbow.

Moving on.

Right after this screenshot, he hits his right forearm prosthetic (that hovering in the air now) with his left one. At first I didn’t know what he was doing. But then this happened:

He made his left arm collide with his right arm so they can attach together, so he wouldn’t lose the prosthetic he just took off.

Let’s back pedal a couple of seconds

Yes, Dororo, he’s not looking at the monster cause he can’t see it, he can sense it. Not that he needs to, he’s not aiming at the damn thing to begin with. (I had to add my sarcastic commentary her, just ignore this part)

Anyway, you know what time it is? Back to the elbow.

Out of the elbow, the end of the katana blade protrudes. From each elbow as seen in the last screenshot. I’m pointing out this detail as praise. In the original manga, this didn’t exist. They actually added this probably to make things more realistic. I mean come on, it’s a damn katana, the blade’s huge, how can it just simply fit into his arms? I mean, Jukai’s a doctor, not a blacksmith, so don’t go expecting him to resize the katana to fit into the arms he made for Hyakkimaru. And don’t expect him to make long arms to accommodate that either, he’s not trying to cause more disabilities, he’s trying to help the boy. And can I just point out how ingenious it is for Jukai to come with this design for the arm to accommodate this? Well, of course. After such a huge amount of trail and error, I wouldn’t expect less.
