“Hay Barge Upset,” Toronto Globe. May 30, 1911. Page 11. --- Ottawa, May 29. - That portion of the Rideau Canal running through the city, and known as the ‘basin,’ resembled a hay market to day. A barge containing 200 bales of hay, in tow of a tug, was coming down the canal, when the swell from a fast pleasure yacht upset it. The crew had a narrow escape, and the hay filled the canal where the accident occurred. After great difficulty, it was all recovered, but, being soaked with water, will have to be opened and dried. The loss to the owners will be heavy.
