Today we celebrate the holy Great Martyr Christopher of Lycia. Saint Christopher was a handsome, intelligent young man but not a Christian. When he found the true faith, he sought Christ to make him unattractive so he could live in prayer and this was done for him. He worked as a mode of transport across the river due to his large size and strength, carrying people on his shoulders. He once carried a small Child Who became so heavy he could no longer support Him. Saint Christopher said to the Child, "why are you all of a sudden so heavy?" to which the Child replied, "because you are now carrying all the sins of the world on your shoulders." The Saint then realised that he was holding Christ Himself and glorified the Lord greatly. He is considered the patron saint of travel and transport, with tradition believing that if one looks at an icon of the Saint, he will not meet an unexpected death that day through their travels.
