Salla Lehtipuu breaks down misconceptions about drawing, showing that this essential skill lies within the reach of everyone. A great TEDxTalk. Lehtipuu makes an important point about how adults have built up a wall of inhibitions over drawing that they do not apply to other skills, such as writing. Children on the other hand, draw without thinking. Though we know that their pictures often do not represent real objects, we do not criticise them (or shouldn’t). They have a confidence that we lack in the artistic field, and the same thing goes for colouring. Lehtipuu also reviews the importance of images, particularly in our psychology. I find the intersection between art and psychology quite fascinating and will be reading more into this field.
