When I was a kid, every time my sister and I went to the library we had to follow the rule my dad instituted: you can check out as many books as you want but one of them has to be a science book. This led to me reading a lot of Eyewitness books (kind of a copout) but, crucially, also exposed me to the incredible story of the coelacanth at the age of about 9. One day, randomly browsing for something I hadn’t read yet, I found and became obsessed with a book called Fossil Fish Found Alive by Sally M. Walker, and could not stop reading it. I must have checked it out about a dozen times over the years and renewed it constantly. I also read all the other books available on coelacanths but this one, being the first, was my favorite. All this to say, finding your blog has been such a delight. My favorite fish, maybe favorite animal, for the last 20+ years!! This is not an Ask a Coelacanth but a Tell a Coelacanth — Love you in all your lobe-finned, oil-filled-notochord glory!!!
