My Best Advice For HS Kids

Hey kids... if you plan to be a successful Music Artist someday here's the BEST advice I can give you. Study hard in school and even consider continuing education to get a business degree. Community College is an AWESOME and a WISE decision because you can still work while pursuing more hands on experience and building connections related to MUSIC BIZ...not to mention you save TONS of money by not living on campus! You'll need to know how to READ your contracts, CALCULATE your royalty checks and taxes.... How to PROMOTE your business & talent and of coarse how to INVEST in a great VOICE COACH (wink wink)... Pick up the LATEST books about MUSIC BUSINESS at your favorite BOOK STORE and actually READ them. Audio Books are cool too. DO IT NOW! Then you'll know the language used by music biz professionals (managers, producers, publishers) and you'll be able to make better decisions when you are approached by the sneaky MUSIC BIZ SHARKS and Con Artists (Every Deal you hear about is NOT always a good deal and the only way you'll know is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Make Um Wait. Tell Um you'll get BACK to them - READ!!)... Find you a MUSIC BIZ MENTOR you can TRUST and consult with until you can afford an entertainment attorney (I know a few music biz mentors. I can even refer you). Associate with people on YOUR level... deal only with SERIOUS career minded music artists and professionals and leave them other dummies alone! Perform often to improve your talent. Don't put out any crappy music on social media!!...by crappy I mean poor music production that is not marketable or if you yourself sound a MESS get that fixed. You know where to find me. First impressions are the LAST. If you are able... save up each year to TRAVEL to the music Capitals (Go to NY, LA, ATL, etc) and rub elbows, build connections, gain exposure or simply do it to GET OUT THE HOOD and experience LIFE! I got much more to say on this but I'm not trying to write a book here LOL...not YET anyway.... Make up your mind tho.... Is this a HOBBY or a BUSINESS?? Step out on FAITH.
