GALA KNÖRR ‘Reality Bytes’ @salonacme x @pablosbirthday México D.F. ‘Reality Bytes’ is aesthetically inspired by the rebellious 1980s UK rave culture which was a reaction by British youth to the oppressive nature of Margaret Thatcher’s government policymaking. A hedonistic act of protest through music and creativity that celebrated union against a future that felt stolen. Internet images just as much as electronic music, are shared, hacked, adulterated, carry a genealogy impossible to trace that carries the effects and readings that have been added by others, that relational capacity potentially can reactivate a sensitivity in society necessary to recognize itself and generate novel and radical narratives in the face of a future that appears highly uncertain. Gala Knörr was born in 1984 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) and received her BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons Paris The New School in 2007, and an MA Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2011. She has been the recipient of Generación 2020 - Fundación Montemadrid, the Basque Artist Program Grant from the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, and the Cultura Resident Artistic Research Fellowship from the Consorci de Museus GVA. Additionally, Knörr was appointed the 2018-2019 Artist-Researcher in residence at Centre for Postcolonial Studies at Goldsmiths University in London. She has also done residencies at Tabakalera International Centre of Contemporary Culture in San Sebastian, Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, AIR Wro in Breslau, and Fundación Bilbaoarte Fundazioa in Bilbao.
