The best way to see the greatness of the Angel Falls is from its base, where the waterfall plunges in a free fall of 979 meters from the top of Auyantepuy (Devil's Mountain). First thing in the morning, just before dawn, you go from the Ucaima pier and aboard a curiara (indigenous boat), accompanied by an indigenous guide of the Pemón ethnic group. You navigate upstream the Carrao river. The first light of dawn shows you the silhouettes of the Kurum and Venado tepuyes against the savannah. You continue navigating the Carrao River, delimited by the luxuriance of the pre-Amazonian forest, which suddenly narrows and enters the Devil's Canyon to Ratón Island. After two hours of navigation, you set foot in the jungle. The noises of the jungle accompany you, and little by little the roar of Angel Falls starts taking over. An hour and a half walk takes you to its base. The immense horsetail that forms the great waterfall appears robust before you. Bathing you with its dew, refreshing you, and allowing you to see all its greatness.
