In Between / Bar Bahar dir. Maysaloun Hamoud
In Between or Bar Bahar follows three young Palestinians/Arab-Israelis on their quest to find love as they are foiled by society’s stifling patriarchal norms. Mouna Hawa, Samar Qupty, and Shaden Kanboura star as the trio, who share a flat in Tel-Aviv.
Though the film eschews a certain resolution for the women, this film is more about the bond that binds them, despite their different identities: the bond of a shared female experience. Definitely worth watching, though TW for rape.
A very assured piece of film-making from Maysaloun Hamoud.
