“When Anders was still an apprentice, he met and befriended an older boy, Karl Thekla. Karl and Anders would commiserate about life in the Circle and joke bitterly about being templar slaves. For years the two were inseparable and Anders later disclosed that there was more than a simple friendship between Karl and him. The two shared a deep love, and their relationship was a sanctuary, an escape from the harsh realities of life in the Circle. Anders would often tell Karl that he was the one good thing about Kinloch Hold. In the years when Anders and Karl were together, Anders made no attempt to escape the Circle.

Shortly after both Anders and Karl had undergone their Harrowings, Karl was transferred from the Fereldan Circle to Kirkwall’s Gallows, where more experienced mages were needed. Anders did not take their parting well, and he would not see Karl again for many years, though the two would continue to write to each other.

In the weeks that followed Karl’s departure, Irving, worried that Anders would likely try to escape again, cautioned him that there would come a point when even the first enchanter would not be able to protect him. Irving requested that Anders be watched carefully, hoping increased templar scrutiny would discourage the young mage from doing something regrettable. By this point however, Anders no longer cared. The pain of losing Karl was too much, and Anders broke out once again. He was recaptured on the docks in West Hill, trying to buy passage to Kirkwall.

🌺: City Elves

Evelyn is definitely sympathetic towards City Elves. They’re never accepted by humans, even if they believe in Andraste; and if they do believe in Andraste, they’re not accepted by their own kind (the Dalish). She wants to help them, but there’s only so much that she, as a single person, can do. Her family had a couple of servants in the estate, some of them being there since she was little. One elf named Melana comforted Evelyn after her argument with her mother, staying with her in her room and braiding her hair, telling her that she’d find someone who loved her for who she was. Evelyn would always leave a couple “misplaced” silvers for the servants and, when she was little, would try to sneak part of her desserts to them, wanting them to try the sweet foods that came out of the kitchens some of the worked in. Today, if Evelyn saw a city elf suffering, she’d try to do what she could to help, which could vary based on her status. As a companion, it could be a few sovereigns and some supplies. As Herald, it’s about the same, since most supplies would go to the soldiers. As Inquisitor, they’d be allowed to seek refuge in Skyhold and overall, she wouldn’t tolerate any sort of discrimination towards elves, both Dalish and City.

❇️: The Divine

Oh, boy. Evelyn doesn’t hate the Divine, per se. In fact, I think it’d be more fitting to say that she feels… indifferent towards the Divine. A part of her is actually afraid of her! Evelyn would rather avoid the Divine as much as possible, at least she’d rather avoid direct interaction with her. Divine Justinia was… okay to her; she tried putting the war between mages and templars to a peaceful end. It was idealistic but she still tried, paying the price for it with her life. Divine Victoria, whoever it turns out to be, has Evelyn’s full support, however. Regardless of who it is, Leliana, Cassandra, or Vivienne, she knows that there won’t be any ill treatment towards her because of her beliefs. Overall, Evelyn’s thoughts on the Divine depend on which one is being talked about, but to say the least, she’s indifferent about her and probably assumes that most Divines are figureheads unless shown otherwise (the Conclave by Justinia, and one of her companions becoming Victoria).
