So I saw a mockingjay pin in a thrift store today. How did someone get rid of this? I have no idea.

sammysmiles wrote this article for an editorial in her school newspaper; it was credited with a full page:
“In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.” That is the first paragraph of the summary of the Hunger Games. Not interested in the book yet? Well the author, Suzanne Collins, is behind many other works you already know. She wrote several stories for kid shows like Little Bear and Oswald and Clifford’s Puppy Days. While writing many childrens’ story lines, she has also written “The Underland Chronicles” which follows Gregor the Overlander on adventures almost like the classic story of Alice in Wonderland. The Underland Chronicles was the first young adult series she wrote, the Hunger Games series is the second. The Hunger Games is a young adult science fiction novel. When readers hear “science fiction” they may they may automatically think “oh that’s not my kind of book,” but the Hunger Games has a little bit for everyone. For girls there is a powerful, intelligent main role, a sixteen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who can take even the strongest men with her cunning abilities. Suzanne Collins also works in a small love interest, but don’t worry guys it doesn’t overpower the book. The action adventure part of the book, which is the main theme of the book, also makes this an amazing read for boys. “The Hunger Games captures the reader with its many twists and turns. Definitely a series worth reading,” says (a reliable male source). Seen the cover before and think it’s boring? Well it is, but on the bright side someone once said, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” And they are right. The cover really doesn’t reflect the book except for the golden circle with the bird and arrow in it. In the book, this pendant goes with Katniss into the Hunger Games as the token she (and all tributes, or players in the games) is allowed to bring with her. The pendant, of a bird called a mockingjay, becomes known as her symbol and people us it throughout the book to identify with her. Each book in the series has its own spark of amazing plot twists, captivating love stories, and heart wrenching, bloody fights. It keeps you interested with each flip of a page. Collins hit the mark when she wrote this series. Everyone seems to have something good to say about it. Even if someone doesn’t enjoy reading they can enjoy the thrilling plot of the Hunger Games in the movie coming out in 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have also been cast as Peeta Mellark (the boy tribute from Katniss’ district) and Gale Hawthorne (Katniss’ bestfriend). As most book/movie relations seem to go, the book is better so grabbing a copy from the library or buying one from Barnes and Noble isn’t a bad idea and well worth the time, energy, and money. Let the Games begin!
