If there’s one thing you learn on this job, it’s that nobody ever calls after midnight with good news.  When it’s your captain calling, it means you’re on a case, and you’d better drag your ass out of bed, pronto.  When the call comes from the Mayor’s personal line, it means that you’d better learn to walk a very thin line, ‘cause someone brought politics to the party.

When the call comes at 3 AM, it almost always means someone’s dead.

This time, it’s all three, and I’ll be damned if I don’t hate my job on days like this.
