I started this #book at the beginning of last summer, maybe late spring. An 800 page #biography on #playwright / #writer #samualbeckett . It had been sitting on my bookshelf for quite sometime. I acquired it when my downstairs neighbor/landlord was clearing out a bunch of #books . I felt confident #quarantine summer would be the time to pick it up & finish it, but I got involved with writing an essay & then school year started & per usual I ended up mostly what I assigned my students, plus work-work picked up again. But I never gave up on it – picking it up & putting it down & picking up over the past year. FINALLY I just it finished last weekend while visiting family in TX I had not seen in over a year. I figured I’d just kinda get rid of it once I finished – not being a Beckett scholar or anything. But I didn’t keep a journal or anything of my #covid year. Now that I look at this book that is beaten up from several beach trips, countless journeys in my courier bag, an unfortunate bath incident, & lots of nights just hanging out at home with a glass of wine or scotch & settling back into Sam’s life … I don’t know … seems to mark the past year more than any other object have, so I guess I’ll keep it on the shelf for awhile longer.
