"You feel like home" she smiled softly at the Oracle "for the first time I feel like I have a home...with you" (added more to it for feels)
Soft spot suggestions - @sanctusmilitis
Luna does not quite remember when she knew of her feelings for Lightning. In a world of moments interspersed between the blurred rush of time, all she can wholly recall is always feeling the warm comfort of having Lightning with her. She was her guard, and then her protector; grew to be her friend and confidante. And one day, someone Luna knew she could never live without. She loves her, so honestly and completely that it can make her chest ache with the fiercest of elation, and yet also crush her with wonder and uncertainty.
Their lives are not safe, and they have never tried to believe otherwise. They know their time could be short on this planet, but when Luna is gripped in the clutches of just how much Lightning has come to mean to her, she realizes how fragile their lives truly are. It frightens her, and in those moments, she seeks out the rose-haired woman and holds her close and, many times, cannot keep from shedding tears quietly against her shoulder.
Luna’s home has long since been ravaged and tainted; beautiful, of course, as Tenebrae is nurtured to be, yet the presence of the Empire stains the memories of her formative years, and ‘home’ has become a concept more than a reality. As with most things in her life, home is nomadic and shifts, but rarely stays in one place. Often, it is with Ravus, the only remnant of their family left besides her, and even then, it is mostly in the memories with him. Home is another thing Luna has let go of. It has made dying all the easier to accept, so long as it is in the name of helping Noctis. Of saving the world.
When Lightning speaks these words to Luna, she is struck silent, shoulders tensing just slightly. Neither of them has anything much akin to a home anymore. Places they sleep, places they exist, a place they are enshrined within. Lightning’s home is as vagrant as Luna’s; the implications behind what she is saying means everything. It is the most comforting of weights to carry, to be someone’s home, but in the wake of those words, Luna realizes something.
There is a moment, the briefest of moments, where the idea frightens her. Already Lightning will be difficult to leave when the time comes (if, she tries to tell herself, but knows her destiny must lead towards one nearly inescapable fate), but putting not just a word, but an idea, a meaning behind the feeling, has her hand trembling just slightly.
Lightning is the home Luna had once lost. It is warm, it is welcoming, and it ignites a fear that is only barely overcome by the intensity to fight. Perhaps destiny doesn’t have to end where she believes it will. Perhaps, if they survive (when), they will have this home to return to, a home that is not a place, but each other. She is afraid, knows it will get the better of her in times of vulnerability, but she has already accepted that this is truth. A truth she would love to find refuge in.
Softly her fingertips rest against the curve of Lightning’s jaw, a gentle kiss placed along the other side. “As you are mine,” she says softly.
