this is the fucking commercial for Drakengard that made me crazy back in 2004, cos i was obsessed with that song in the trailer, i had to have it
one prob tho, it was 2004
one did not simply go online and find the song, this was before that sort of thing. Even places like Napster or Limewire weren't a place where you could easily find international music, especially from an obscure video game soundtrack
no, i had to go to japan and buy it
i'm not joking, i saw it (and by "it" i mean the two cds that held the entire soundtrack) for sale in a random ass music store in Tokyo and was like HEY ITS THAT GAME!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!
I lost the cds year ago (oh my god they would have been SO valuable now) but the mp3s that i ripped from them still migrate to each ipod i buy
(was trying to upload the exact track from my ipod and it wouldn't show up in my music folder and i was going nuts. Turns out its still in the M4a format on my ipod holy shit why. All the other tracks from the same cd are mp3s???)
ANYWAYS
So my whole life i thought this ost was done by a real orchestra right. as in i thot back in 2001-2002 there were some poor musicians and a conductor somewhere in japan being put through hell preforming these pieces
then i learned the truth last month: That these are actually all classical music samples sped up/slowed down and chopped up to make new songs
i was super bummed out, but came to terms with the fact that hey, it really would be impossible for a full orchestra to play something like the song from the commercial live on stage, be realistic
but then today i found this tidbit on the wikipedia for the series' music:
and i got hype! It was played all in one piece by a real orchestra! Its a live remix of a bunch of classics! yay!
But then, because i always wanna double check as many claims as i can..
>:/
whoever edited this wiki didn't slow down and actually read the interview. it says that they had an orchestra come in and play them the exact samples they wanted to use, so they could record them fresh and then upload them and make the remixes
