Blooborne Fanfic
Here’s the first part~ I think I’m going to officially call the fanfic “Sanguine!”
Two sets of boots clack against the brick road hastily. An echo replies with every step. It’s quiet; the sun has set and the last-quarter moon looms in the sky.
“The-- hunt isn’t for another-- half month why are we-- running!?” the red- haired girl asked, speaking between her breaths, trying to keep up with her sister. “Mum’s sick, Lilith.” the blonde replied, keeping a quick pace while slowing slightly. “Sick? But what about the blood?” Lilith continued, “How can she be sick?” “I dunno!” the blonde replied with impatience. Lilith asked no more, following silently, boots still echoing in the quiet streets. 10 minutes passed. “You… don’t think it’s the scourge… do you..?” Lilith asked, breaking the near-silence. “What? No. That’d be ridiculous. Why on earth would you say something like that?” the sister answered. “I… you know what they say..” Lilith mumbled. Her sister glanced back to her, “Mum’s the most faithful bloody person in this half the city.” The rest of the hurried walk home was in silence.
Kerrigan rapped the door feverishly. “Mum! It’s Kerrigan and Lilith!” There was no immediate reply. Kerrigan knocked again, a bit harder. “Mum!” Kerrigan yelled. Lilith whined, timidly glancing to her sister. Kerrigan glanced over to Lilith, then checked the doorknob. Locked. “She’s probably just sleeping. You know.. like a rock..” Kerrigan conjected, glancing up to the second- floor windows. “Course she insisted on having a single key to the door.” “Kerrigan..” Lilith spoke, “who told you mum’s sick..?” “Her sodding doctor did. I wouldn’t make a deal out of it if it wasn’t important” Kerrigan said, then knocked on the door again. Lilith sighed anxiously, “Is she at the clinic?” “He said she was at home.” Kerrigan paused, “fine, we’ll check the clinic.”
Fortunately, the clinic was only a short walk from their mother’s home. A small wooden sign hung above the door, the words ‘Aldwin’s Medical Clinic’ painted upon it. Kerrigan opened the door, as the entrance was always unlocked, and entered. A small bell chimed upon entrance. Lilith followed close behind, glancing around quietly. “Doctor Cathal?” Kerrigan called out. Instead of the doctor, a younger man with dark hair entered the room. His garb was distinctly that of a Church Doctor. Fear danced around Lilith’s heart as she watched the man. Kerrigan, less phased, spoke up. “Do you know where Doctor Cathal is, sir?” The man smiled slightly, “yes, I was just speaking with him. It’s a tad late for a few young ladies such as yourselves to be out, isn’t it?” Lilith froze, but Kerrigan was again unphased. “We’ll wait for him here then. Thank you.” She then sat in one of the few chairs. Lilith rigidly mimicked her sister, sitting in the chair adjacent. The man then tipped his hat to the two and headed out. A few moments passed and Lilith relaxed slightly. “How is it you’re not afraid of them?” She pried. “What’s a man with a cane going to do to me? I bed he’d lose his breath just trying to chase me” Kerrigan replied, seeming a bit defensive.
The door which the Church Doctor had come from opened again, and both the sisters stood. A short, crooked man stood in the doorway. “Ah, hello.” he said, walking over to the counter. “A bit late for a couple Vanhorn sisters to be visiting eh?” Kerrigan stepped forward, “That’s what the other man said. I got your letter about our mother being sick, and wanted to know if she’s here. She wasn’t answering the door at home.” “Ah. I’m afraid not…” The doctor replied, glancing outside to see if anyone was still there. I wouldn’t worry yourself, dears. Everything is going to be taken care of. Kerrigan paused for a moment, staring intensely at the doctor. Lilith froze in terror. “That church man. He’s a hunter, isn’t he!?” Kerrigan shouted. Lilith covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes. The doctor reached under the counter and held up a firearm. “I don’t want to do you any harm, but you know what has to be done. It was the plague of beasts!” Kerrigan’s eyes were fixed on the gun, scowling slightly as Lilith gripped Kerrigan’s sleeve, trembling. The doctor placed the gun on the counter, still holding it. “I’ll let you stay here until everything is dealt with. At least you won’t have to see any of it happen. Kerrigan glared at the man momentarily, then took Lilith’s hand and hurried out of the building. She hurried down the street tugging her sister along, ignoring the old man’s bellowing from the clinic. Lilith was still trembling, and just barely complying with the physical force of her sister’s pulling. Kerrigan ran down the street, back to their mother’s home.
Upon arrival they found the door broken open. There was no light coming from the home, but an eerie feeling filled Kerrigan. Lilith, still gripped with terror grasped her sister’s hand tightly, as if holding on for her life. Kerrigan slowly approached, a trickling of fear began filling her mind. “M-Mum..?” Kerrigan called out, glancing into the house. Nothing... No - footsteps, from the second level. Kerrigan backed out of the doorway and watched, hiding as well as she could. Lilith still held Kerrigan’s hand with a death-grip. It was the man from before. He walked towards the doorway casually as his long black coat trailed behind him. “Your mother isn’t here” he said, “A window on the backside of the second floor is broken, no doubt aided by beastly strength. There was no body down below… I suggest you consider this the death of your mother. The truth is far more horrific.” Tears shot down Kerrigan’s face as she glared at the man with a scowl. Lilith turned even more pale than before, surely in shock. It only took a few seconds for her to collapse behind Kerrigan.
