i choose to believe that himena set this up on purpose. she can do miyurin a solid AND watch the instructor try not to seem embarrassed. it's a win-win!★

I wonder if part of the reason why Miyuri idolizes San so much is because she sees a little of herself in San? Like the kind of person Miyuri wishes she could be, or something. They seem like polar opposites, but their roots are kind of similar.

In San's MSS, she tells Miyuri that she used to be very skittish when she was younger. The first time her parents took her to the Hikarizuka Fire Festival as a kid, she actually cried because the flames and shouting scared her so much. Later, she joined the Youth Association out of admiration for how cool everyone there was, despite finding their rowdiness intimidating. She was still quite shy, but she tried her hardest to start talking to people more, and eventually got over her nervousness.

It's a similar story for Miyuri: She too was painfully shy as a kid, but as she got older, her timidness developed into a full-blown anxiety disorder. At one point, it got bad enough that she was barely able to leave the house because she was so afraid of having another panic attack. Her worried parents signed her up with the Youth Association, hoping that getting to spend time around other kids in her age group would help coax her out of her shell.

Miyuri has seen San at her best- the strong, capable White Feather official, able to dispatch foes with ease; brave and level-headed in the face of mortal danger. The girl who tenaciously clings to her goals, determined to make them a reality even when the odds are stacked against her.

But she's seen San have moments of weakness, too. She saw how anxious San was about the Hikarizuka Fire Festival getting shut down; saw her literally drop to her knees and beg Miyuri's father to please let them hold the festival for one more year. She's been there to listen when San is sad or worried. Heck, I'd say San being willing to open up to Miyuri about how much of a crybaby she was as a kid- something that does not at all match the tough, mature image she's worked so hard to cultivate- sorta counts as letting Miyuri see her more vulnerable side as well.

For as invincible as San is on the battlefield, how much of a hardass she is as the Instructor, and how confidently she carries herself, she isn't beyond feeling hurt or insecure-- emotions that Miyuri is all too familiar with.

However, where Miyuri's instinct is to run (or cry, or... straight-up pass out) when confronted with danger or something that otherwise scares or upsets her, San pushes through it. She's clearly worked hard to overcome how timid she once was-- she easily strikes up conversations with others, she faces witches and enemy magical girls head-on without flinching, and she's an excellent teacher (if rather, uh, strict with the Feathers).

I'm just thinkin', like... Maybe knowing that San isn't completely flawless is part of what makes her so perfect to Miyuri? Like, she does get scared; she does get desperate; she does still cry sometimes. But she drives herself to hold strong in spite of it all, and I feel like Miyuri (who struggles a lot with anxiety) probably really admires that aspect of her.
