I've been having thoughts about this subject for quite some time now. I just couldn't put it into words. There's also the fear of consequences, but I'm throwing that fear into the trash bin.
I've been in the seiyuu fandom since 2009 but I've never joined any fan groups/clubs, international or local. I've always been the type to enjoy my hobbies and interests by myself, but I digress.
I joined Twitter recently and started following a bunch of seiyuu fans. I don't interact with them but I really enjoy reading about their latest CD purchases and their thoughts about their favorites' recent works.
However, not all of them are very friendly. I've encountered some elitist fans (mostly of male seiyuu), and some were just downright rude.
There's this one Filipino girl--who goes by the name Sarapyon--who dissed a group of fellow Filipino seiyuu fans. Naturally, the group would retaliate. She saw this as "toxic behavior" and called them out and she went on for days talking about how she didn't want drama when she started it in the first place.
I don't know much about her but from what I gather from her Twitter and Tumblr accounts, she's pretty toxic herself.
I took a look at her bio and it's full of questionable stuff. From comments such as, non-verbatim, "People seem to think that I'm a foreigner. I'm 100% Filipino though." Okay. I have something to say about this, but it's 100% racist, so I'll just not.
One more thing that irked me was that, while she passed N5 level Japanese, she seems to think that she's at N3 just because her Japanese friends say she is. Girl, at least take the test first. Sheesh.
I also watched her most recent YouTube video (because apparently she's a YouTuber) and it seems like she acts like she's the authority when it comes to the seiyuu fandom. At least, in the Philippines. She speaks so highly about herself when in fact, there are other people who know more about the fandom.
I wasn't going to mention this, but she even swore in front of her audience just because of the picture they used for Furukawa Makoto. LMAO.
I spoke to my fellow Malaysian seiyuu fan friends about her and they all said pretty much the same thing I did in this post.
If she's the face of the Philippine seiyuu fan community, then yikes!
