Down to the bone (Sarge x Red!Reader)
Prompt #46 I’m your daughter.
It was a secret. A secret that was so well kept that nobody in Blood Gulch knew.
It was sickening how everyone thought you had a crush on Sarge and vice-versa. It was sick since he was well, your father.
He protected you like you were a treasure, even when Tucker found out you were a girl, he scared him off you. He knew you’d never be with a Blue because you were a Red down to the bone.
He was your guidance and you were his strength. You only had each other in the world.
You always liked to laugh when Simmons every so often mentioned he would have liked that Sarge was his father, and he got jealous of the paternal affection he had for you.
You usually never got worried about him getting into battle, no matter what, Sarge would always survive to the most absurd things. But, being in a civil war on Chorus, made you realize he could actually die.
Armonia was never that quiet as it was that day, just a small bunch of people had stayed there, guarding the city, and you were there too, after your father, Grif and Simmons had left way earlier before you woke up (which was surprising).
You were just waiting in the war room to see if there were any news, nothing.
Doyle soon came in. “Miss (Last Name)!”, he even sounded surprised. “I thought you had gone to Crash Site Alpha with the rest of your team!”
A small dry chuckle escaped you. “They left before I woke up. Looks like Colonel Sarge didn’t want me in the battlefield this time.” Or ever. He never liked when your life was at risk.
“Oh, dear child, that’s a shame. You could have been really useful on the front lines.”
“What do you mean by the front lines? Don’t you mean the battlefield...in general?”
Doyle took a deep breath like he was preparing himself to say something you wouldn’t like. “Your team was signed up for the front lines, Miss (Last Name).”
There it was. You suddenly felt like if the air was being knocked out of your lungs. The only member of your family you had and your closest friends had left to a dangerous war zone.
Those thoughts got worse when you heard Kimball’s voice shouting almost frenetically over the radio, “Mayday! Mayday! This is Vanessa Kimball to Armonia! We need immediate ground support! Please respond! Over!”
A trap was your first thought. But after you had heard Carolina also calling for help you had to go after that key that put everyone’s lives at risk.
You just hoped it all worked out.
It felt like a lifetime had passed since that morning, but it was just late evening when you went back to Armonia, after dropping Carolina on the hospital after she fell from a cliff.
When you stepped in the War Room for the second time in the day, you saw them arrive. Simmons, Grif, and Sarge, all together.
“You!” You growled, with something heavy crushing your chest as you took heavy steps towards Sarge. You knew he was going to say something, but you were so pissed off and worried and, you needed to pull that out of your chest. Your fists connected with his helmet.
“Don’t you ever dare to leave like that again! I’m your daughter for heaven’s sake!” You took off your helmet, tears now pricking your eyes. “You’re the only thing I have left....don’t leave like mom did.”
The whole room fell silent.
Sarge shook his head like he was bewildered by what you did, but then he understood that you weren’t the little girl he had raised once, you weren’t the young trooper that joined the red team. You were a soldier, a strong Captain.
“(Your Name).” He spoke, reassuring, protective as his hand was on your shoulder, and oh god, you missed listening to your name. “You really are a red down to the bone.”
But, as expected, the bunch of idiots surrounding you broke that sentimental moment.
“Okay, now I’m going to see Sarge’s face all over (Last Name) from now on. Gross.” Grif sounded horrified and Simmons probably was going to faint.
“I’ve been jacking off to Sarge’s daughter all this time?!” Tucker asked, voice filled with horror.
You sighed heavily, reaching for your helmet once again, “A red down to the bone, like you, old man.”
“Down to the bone, young lady...”
