Second Sats English test accidentally published online

An English test due to be taken by year six pupils across the country today has been accidentally published online, the second such incident in recent weeks. The answers to the Key Stage Two grammar, punctuation and spelling test are understood to have appeared on a website for an English exam board on Monday evening, where they remained in a password-protected area for several hours before being removed. The leak was not judged to be significant enough to cancel Tuesday's test, but Labour said the gaffe was a "body blow" to parent and teacher confidence in the Department for Education (DfE).

The failure to ensure integrity in primary assessment lies at the door of education ministers who have meddled in the primary curriculum on personal whim, causing chaos and confusion in the system with their constant chopping and changing.

A spokesman said Education Secretary Nicky Morgan had been notified of the breach. In April a spelling test due to be taken by thousands of seven-year-olds was scrapped after it was accidentally released online. The section of the Key Stage One final exam was published as a sample paper on the DfE website on January 26, which a spokesman described as "deeply regrettable".

I wholeheartedly support the children, parents, carers and teachers who are striking over the SATs tests today. Young children should not feel the stresses they have been put under over a school test.

School is stressful and hard, particularly as you get older. For young children it should be a place of discovery and learning. School should encourage and excite children. Not worry and upset them.

I stand with the children and their parents. I stand with teachers who are tired of watching their pupils suffer under the pressure of tests. I stand with this strike.
