i can't believe the amount of people on tumblr that say they don't care about Libya. There are women being raped, men and children killed, and people being tortured by their own goverment. and you people don't CARE. how can you not care? today in class i heard two girls talking about it behind me and they were like, "oh yeah like i dont give a fuck about libya everyone should shut up." WHAT ARE YOU SAYING. We live in the most powerful country in the world and you dont CARE? It has now been determined that no country will intervein and it's so frustrating how a country needs help and other countries are helpless in helping them. Please, I beg you SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT LIBYA. Inform people and make them care! This is our generation, do something about it.

Dot, freaking, dot.

So I'm totally aware at this horror that is going on in this world right now. And I am proud, to see all of these people gathering around (on Tumblr at least) and actually taking noticed on what is happening. This isn't like the Jewish holocaust where people was just like "eh". This is different. We, as Americans, are actually doing something, whether it's acknowledging the fact there's a genocide going on, or the fact that we want to do something about it. We are being unified against this terror, and the most amazing thing (to me) is that this isn't even happening on American soil. This is happening in an area far far away from here, and yet, our compassion is reaching out towards those brave people, fighting for their rights, and struggling for the right to live. We, as Americans, have grown so much over the years, and we are no longer thinking about ourselves. We are now worried about people who are not even American, but we treat them like they are our brothers and sisters.

I know there is not much I can do individually, but as a whole, we have already done something far greater than someone can individually do: we have come together.

Libya.

I wish I could help. Reblogging everything I see, signing petitions... but in the end, I'm here, across the world. All I can really do is bring attention, and pray that someone who really can help sees this.

So please. If you can help, somehow, in a way that I can't, do. Pray, if that's your thing. Chant, if that's your thing. Meditate, petition, whatever you think will help.

I know I might be praying tonight. I wish I could do more. But all I really truly can do is pray and hope for the best.

Citizens of Libya have NO rights

According to the US Department of State’s annual human rights report for 2007, Libya’s authoritarian regime continued to have a poor record in the area of human rights.[61] Some of the numerous and serious abuses on the part of the government include poor prison conditions, arbitrary arrest and prisoners held incommunicado, and political prisoners held for many years without charge or trial. The judiciary is controlled by the government, and there is no right to a fair public trial. Libyans do not have the right to change their government. Freedom of speech, press, assembly, association, and religion are restricted. Independent human rights organizations are prohibited. Ethnic and tribal minorities suffer discrimination, and the state continues to restrict the labor rights of foreign jobs.

In 2005 Freedom House rated both political rights and civil liberties in Libya as "7" (1 representing the most free and 7 the least free rating), and gave it the freedom rating of "Not Free".
