Bulgaria’s nature is at risk.
The future of Pirin National Park is in the hands of the mafia, who want to make luxurious ski resorts on the northern slopes of the park. On 28.12.2017 they made 48% of the park’s land open for construction. Huge parts of the forest will be cut down, a lot of species will loose their habitat.

Trying to follow and learn about the #SavePirin movement, there is a good feature on Al Jazeera that just came out and also the Guardian has a good article. The Independent reports that the placards at a recent protest read : “We want nature, not concrete” as they marched, and carried placards saying “Bulgaria, wake up and fight” and “Citizens against the mafia”.
#SavePirin: Why are Bulgarians protesting? | Environment
Thousands of Bulgarians have braved subzero temperatures in some 20 cities across the country to protest against a government decision to amend the management plan of a major national park.
The rallies on Thursday were the latest in a number of demonstrations held this month opposing the expansion of the Bansko skiing resort in Pirin national park amid fears it could lead to over-construction…

#yavorovhut #pirin #savepirin because of all this beauty
This was my 2017.
I am grateful for the good year I had and hope that 2018 will be even better!
I pushed the visuals from my five day hike through Pirin first, but after that everything is chronologically correct.
