Former RBKC Council Leader Nicholas Paget-Brown at the 2017 public protest & march to save the Royal Brompton Hospital. Paget-Brown was willing to promote the idea of allowing planning permission for change of use from the Royal Brompton Hospital Fulham Wing medical building to luxury private commercial residential use, preventing The Royal Marsden Hospital from purchasing the building. Paget-Brown preferred the historic Hospital Fulham Road wing building be sold to private developers until his resignation as leader in the wake of the Grenfell Tower Offense. The Royal Brompton Hospital’s Fulham Wing is on Fulham Road, the building was set to be sold off to private developers in 2014 until local residents and patients campaigned & saved the Royal Brompton Fulham Wing. Robert J Bell has been consistently trying to move the Royal Brompton Hospital’s specialized services out of Chelsea since the scandal of the Paddington Basin Health Campus scheme in 2005. An attempted move to White City in 2011 was thwarted, along with the historic Fulham road Wing being earmarked for closure to be sold on the market before local residents and patients put a stop to it.
