Earlier this month, there was an international protest to breach the 4 lower Snake River dams in the Salish Sea. We called @GovInslee’s office that day over 1,000 times, which is amazing! To refresh, the Southern Resident orca population is currently starving to death, mainly because their primary source of food, the Chinook salmon, is also rapidly declining. The 4 Snake River dams are preventing the salmon from spawning and reproducing at the rate that they should be. If Governor Inslee of Washington would authorize the breaching of these dams, both the Southern Resident orcas AND Chinook salmon would have a chance at survival. Like sharks, orcas play a vital role in the ocean. And with only 74 Southern Residents orcas left in existence, it’s important that we take action. On November 16th, our recommendations will be determined and Governor Inslee will either breach the dams or won’t. ~ YOU can use your voice by calling or sending letters to Governor Inslee’s office (contact info on the next photo. Swipe :)) and ask him to “Please breach the Snake River dams in 2018 to help the starving Southern Resident orcas and the Chinook salmon”. Let’s help create the change that we need to see! 💙 #breachthedams #savetheorca #salishsea #savetheocean #jointhepod #orcawhale #killerwhale #savetheplanet #nobluenogreen Incredible artwork by @killerwhaleartist, second photo from @pnwprotectors with a beautiful orca photo by @perrinjames1. https://www.instagram.com/p/BpQFxbHBhig/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lbnhxn0i1cv8
