My first review will be of a band crafted in the mighty New York City. Savior Adore is the name and Fantasy Pop is their inventive genre self-classification. The band consists of Brooklyn natives Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro. This duo’s fan base would fall under the small but fiercely loyal category. Savior Adore’s sound can probably best be described as a blend of extraterrestrial space travel background music with hypnotically catchy lyrics woven throughout. The band signed to the Cantora label on May 6, 2008, with their first release being “The Adventures of Mr. Pumpernickel and the Girl with Animals in Her Throat EP.” Savior Adore’s self-coined “Fantasy Pop” sound is considered as being part of a larger musical genre call alternative. One common thread for most successful bands under the umbrella genre of alternative is finding their way onto a soccer videogame’s soundtrack. Major alternative bands such as The Black Keys, The White Stripes and The Arctic Monkeys have all featured on soccer video games. It comes as no surprise to its followers that Savior Adore joined this esteemed list in 2013 with their song “Dreamers.” The band also found both literal and monetary commercial success when their cover of a song from 1987 by Men Without Hats was used in a 2012 advertisement for Tide pods. When Savior Adore signed for the Cantora label they joined a band with a similar funk based sound. MGMT is the band for the same label that has the closet sound to Savior Adore. If you have an affinity for psychedelic synthesizers and thought provoking lyrics, you’ll fall in love with Savior Adore.
