She is Alone
She is alone… and the world listens She is alone… and our ear beckons What one woman alone handles… millions, shatters
***
(As) A child and she loses her mother, extraordinary A little older and she’ll lose her father, the greatest Ali A young woman, she’ll watch her brother spit up his liver When she is the Zaynab in Karbala, who does not leave her?
Zaynab is alone and the heavens wail violently What is comfort if no one is comforting the daughter of Ali? Where is respect if respect to her is missing? Where is love if her heart is still breaking?
She is alone… where is her brother? She is alone… where is her defender? Who is to the Prophet dearer… this is Fatima’s daughter
***
A woman quickly loses everyone who is most dear Yet she still stands and rises facing all of this fear Teaching lessons to tyrants; “I see nothing but beauty” Her losses go beyond one family, this is a loss for humanity
In the same way we deny leaders of evil and falsehood And strongly revere leaders of truth and good Know this Zaynab did the same as she rattled tyrants Not one part of her bows to any fear, she is defiance
She is alone… yet she is resistant She is alone… we wish we were present Her family watches her commitment… it is consistent
***
How many tears would it take to comfort her? She is who we cry for when we remember her brother Because when Hussain is on those sands moments before death We all hear Zaynab’s cries as she begs for his breath
No one is there to stroke her when she is suffering No one can remedy the ache that she is silently withstanding There is no Abbas to rush to her aid when she says, “Where is he?” No one’s steps quicken toward her when she cries, “Help me!”
She is alone… but she perseveres She is alone… the angels wipe her tears What she hears is nothing… to what she sees on spears
***
We could never let her memory go unremembered The struggles of Zaynab bint Ali has left our minds altered To know a woman of her kind existed and then suffered intensely Keeps our minds busy in confusion with how she saw only beauty
It isn’t a myth, fable, or fiction - this Zaynab is the root of good action If you ever wonder why there is any worship to God, it is due to her passion You wouldn’t know God if Zaynab didn’t witness what she did then speak You wouldn’t know the strength of a woman if Zaynab didn’t set the peak
She is alone… we notice her effort She is alone… her strength is a comfort The person Zaynab is… wants us to stand against hurt
***
Loneliness does not penetrate the believer, but aloneness does Zaynab is alone, but she is never lonely during these stances She might have no one, but she has the might to overcome How can she not when she knows the good of martyrdom?
She carries grief with her in each step and it’s so heavy Even the stars begged their Lord to come down and carry But none did; she carried this alone with her Lord’s affection Only seeing His Beauty in horror is proof of her steady conviction
She is alone… yet she has risen She is alone… but it is not a burden This Zaynab is it… where all strugglers learn benefit
