SB-566, Is That an Industrial Hemp Petition?
The California Legislature has pushed forward a senate bill, SB-566. This bill redefines California’s stance towards “Industrial Hemp”, and its relation to marijuana. The people of California now join the ranks of other stance that have taken a similar stance, with some differences.
The major difference of them all is how it went about legalizing hemp. The key point to be noted is, “upon federal approval”. As obvious as this may be, allow me display a reminder; it is still illegal to cultivate hemp even within the state of California if you are not abiding the other laws regarding marijuana.
Essentially, until the federal government approves industrial hemp, specifically Californians are most likely going to have to wait until an overwhelming number of states take a similar stance. Seeing how controversial the approach itself is, it is interesting to ponder how people will feel about it.
Is California taking the sensible approach, or just the easy way out? “Yeah, we’ll sign a petition.”
