"Let's venture into the first snow" (Hajimari no yuki)
The flakes were fluffy and big. Shuuji longed to go out to feel them on his skin and see their beauty up close. But alas, he couldn’t leave during his shift at the cafe. In the midst of taking orders, he took moments to look, swiftly yet longingly, out the windows to watch it fall. He wasn’t much for cold, but there was something about snow–especially the first one of the season that enticed and enchanted him. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but he always managed to feed this urge to go out during the first snow fall, and he wanted to uphold that. He hoped that it would still be snowing by the time his shift was over.
“Let’s venture out into the first snow.”
The words pulled him out of his thoughts as he gave the girl a curious glance. Had she seen him, and sensed that he wished to go out at the time? He gave a sheepish smile as he wiped down the counter.“I wonder if it would be okay, I’m still on my shift right now.”“Why not? I see the way you’re looking out the window. A couple of minutes won’t hurt, right?” The girl gave him a kind smile. Shuuji was a bit confused by her intentions, but he hesitated a moment before nodding anyway. His manager was in the back anyway, and his co-workers didn’t really care. Setting the cloth down, he nodded.“Sure, let’s go out for a moment.” Coming out from around the counter, he walked beside her to, and then out the door.
The first step out felt like a winter wonderland. Absolutely beautiful and glistening, he thought. The soft flakes fluttered all around them, giving a sense of peace, along with the slight biting chill in the air. Despite that, Shuuji felt at peace.“Thanks.” He told her, glad that she had helped convince him. “I hate to do this so quickly, but I should get back to work.”“I understand.” She told him with a smile. “I just wanted someone to enjoy it with, and it seemed like you would.”

@sbt-kaede That afternoon, Miyu took off from a nearby cafe after her cup of freshly made green juice and a piece of egg sandwich. She combed the streets she had grown to know too well and went on to her job where she was made to change to tons of different clothes and had her hair styled in ways she couldn’t even begin to imagine. The photoshoot for the next issue of CanCam went on until the sun almost went down as it was chased by gently by the moon. She had no time to check on her phone at all. And when she did, she was met with a surprise. It wasn’t her phone. It wasn’t an iPhone 6 in a pretty pastel case with a gudetama plug nor was it a brand new rose gold phone with a picture of her and her mother and father as the lock screen. It was something that felt and looked entirely unfamiliar within her hands. There was no mistaking that the device that she held was not hers and her brain ran faster than her body ever had done, trying to think of how this could have happened. Her fingers though – pretty and manicured and painted pink – had a mind on their own as they danced on the screen of the thankfully unlocked phone as she dialed her own number, hoping to God that someone would pick up her phone.
