Speaking about pages, what are the kind of things that would unlock their potential? how long do they have to struggle? The only pages i've seen so far are jake and tavros and both of them arent exactly fully realized pages on their own. Or at least versions of them that have realized their powers arent given narrative spotlight.
i have a page of life in my session and i planned that even after finishing their quest, theyre still relatively powerless. but then, their friend, a prince of doom, went grimdark. their leader pushed them to fight the prince on their own. they were hurt badly and they have to drag themselves to die on their quest bed with their meagre powers. and that was the catalyst for the page's powers. do you think thats enough for the page or did they have to go through another arc to control their overflowing power so its useful instead of self destructive? im not even sure what kind of power upgrades my oc should get. pages are hard to write.
Where other classes develop sort of naturally, be it fast or slow, pages need a massive amount of introspection to get anywhere. Their true potential is unlocked by great emotion, in combination with a self-assurance and humility few pages will attain without help.
Most of them will find themselves relying on a strong figure in their life, willingly or not, and their relationship with that person may often be what kick-starts their development: A battle betwixt their own want for self-reliance and their dependency on others.
Tavros was quite literally dependent on others’ care in his disability, Jake relied on Dirk to lend him his skill and strength via the Brobot. Both were happier when freed from these restrictions, but their effect on their development can’t be written away.
As for your Page of Life, if the Prince of Doom is someone important to them, I can definitely see how such a challenge might push a Page to the edge of their mental capabilities and cause the awakening of their powers.
Survival instincts might kick them into overdrive, that happens even to non-Sburb players, and there’s little as transformative as a death, in the most literal sense.
If not for the sake of keeping their powers going, the Page would definitely need time to reel them in afterwards, as such great potential can hardly be wielded by someone who doesn’t know its capabilities, its limits, like learning the sensitivity of the engine on a new car.
Their presence might overwhelm the ground and air in plants and pollen, an explosion of flower power. Learning to take hold of and really control their inner power requires looking inside, and that’s something the Page will resent. The preferred plot of Pages is one that serves them, moves at their own pace and at their whim, and in turn they allow this plot to mold and move them as it pleases.
Truly mastering a Page’s power is to go against the grain and flow, to know themselves. They know how to get others to do what they want, now they must know to get *themselves* to do what they want.
