I Can’t Stand Mellie or Bellamy Young

I know this is petty of me to even make this post, but this blog is for me to just rant about things for fun so here I go. I started off liking the character of Mellie (as a good, juicy, villainous character) and I like BY as an actress. It seems like Shonda tried so hard with the retconning of Mellie’s character trying to make her likeable that she forgot sometimes a villain can be just as much fun to watch. A character does not have to be GOOD to be enjoyable!

The old/original Mellie (aka Millicent Grant) was truly fun to watch. She was a ruthless, conniving, ambitious schemer. We’ve all known people like that. Well soon enough, Shonda changed her name to Melody and tried to change her into some kind of heroic victim who we are supposed to feel sorry for. The rape scene with Fitz’s father went way too far as well. It was a cheap ploy to make people pity Mellie and it was just dumb.

Okay now onto Bellamy Young herself. Her behavior has grown increasingly thirsty over the years. I understand the idea of promoting yourself, but she does not need to jump to the front of EVERY photo opportunity. She especially acted thirsty and hogged the spotlight during the scandal cast Mexico trip. She continually posed with Tony and Kerry, trying to push the “love triangle” narrative which is just plain ludicrous.

There is a huge difference between looking out for yourself and shining in a crowd, vs just being plain downright extra and annoying. Darby Stanchfield for example, knows how to stay in her lane while still getting the plenty of photo ops and cameratime when the cast is together. Bellamy comes across and pushy and desperate. It seems like the rest of the cast just lets her do her thing, ya know? Smh.
