A man climbed a hill, sword at the ready. As he reached the top, he stopped and sighed with relief upon spotting his destination. A massive construct, thousands of feet from one end to the other, protruded from the land. Segmented limbs sprawled from it, hinting that it was a massive vessel of unknown make and foreign nature. It appeared to be made of metal, though of what kind is unknown. Various plants covered the structure, and judging by the amount, it was ancient. And he knew it. So old in fact, that not only its name, but the name of the culture that forged it had been lost to the ages, only known as the old world.
After staring at it, the man descended, marching toward the structure. As he neared the base of it, its’ shadow cast down over him, making it seem as if the day grew short and night had come early. He stalked towards a rift in its side, carefully climbing into it, being mindful of the sharp edges. Once inside the dark interior, he lit a torch, the light revealing a slanted corridor and the outlined appearance of strange shapes. He walked along the winding corridors for hours on end, marking the path he tread, his eyes darting consistently from left to right.
Eventually, he found a door, a plate of the same metal, a glass panel to the side. He could see no key hole, though he did notice that the door was slightly ajar. He grabbed hold and pulled, heaving with all his strength. After some time and work, there was finally an opening for him to enter. The room was massive, countless chairs with long tables bolted to the floor, were arranged in what appeared to be a small plaza near the door he walked through. He walked into the room, looking at the dust gathered on the tables. Placing a hand on one of the tables, he wiped away the thick layer of dust, revealing smooth glass.
Suddenly, the room burst into life, the tables and countless other surfaces, runes and images danced across their surfaces, and sound erupted, shattering the deathly silence. A spectral figure materialized in the chamber. The man stood, paralyzed with fear. It spoke to him in a language he did not recognize. It paused, staring at him intently, and he still couldn’t move. It spoke again, and he still couldn’t move. It spoke once more, an edge of aggression in its voice. This made him move. He dashed for the door, trying to flee. The spectre screamed, clearly furious with his intrusion. He had almost made it to the door when a beam of light struck him clear through the chest, causing him to slump to the ground, lifeless. With that, the spectre calmed and awaited orders that would come no more, and the lights and sounds died down, letting the place sleep once again
