A couple weeks went buy and Kaneki and Hide had just returned from work, it was around five o clock when they returned and both of them were thinking about going out.
“Hide would you like to...go out together? Like a date?”

“Not exactly surprising.”

▲ five time my muse thought about kissing yours, and the one time they did.
The first time Kaneki thinks about kissing Hide, they’re in seventh grade, and she’s patching up his knee. He’d been running the track during gym, and had taken a tumble when a classmate pushed him. Hide had plenty of band-aids on her, and gave him a cute, child one with dinosaurs. “Be more careful next time!” she laughs. He thinks that Hide looks very pretty the way she is, and he just blushes and says thank you.
The second time Kaneki thinks about kissing Hide, they’re in high school, and Hide’s iPod has been stolen. Even though Hide’s trying to play it off, he can see the tears in her eyes, and he wants to kiss all that pain away and give her something to smile about. She mumbles, “It’s just a stupid iPod.” He invites her out for hamburgers to cheer her up instead.
The third time Kaneki thinks about kissing Hide, they’ve just graduated, and Hide is helping him pack up the last of his things. Now that school is over, he can leave his aunt’s horrid house, and Hide’s packing away his books. “You are such a bookworm, Neki!” Hide cries. She drops another book in a box and continues with her previous train of thought. She’s talking so animatedly that he never wants her to lose that enthusiasm. He laughs at a poor joke she’s made, and puts the picture of his mother he’s holding in a box.
The fourth time Kaneki thinks about kissing Hide, they’re in college and he’s just come back from his time at the hospital. She runs to him, shakes him by the shoulders like she always has, and proclaims, “Rabbits die of loneliness!” He looks at her, at how she pushes her lip out in a pout, cheeks puffed out, and apologizes for leaving her alone.
The fifth time Kaneki thinks about kissing Hide, they’re somewhere dark and damp, and she has removed the mask of the monster he’s become, pulled away the kakuja and brought him back to consciousness. She murmurs, “I knew all along, silly!” and he feels his chest ache. He grabs her by the cheeks and brings her close, and this time he kisses her, for she has accepted every part of him, loves every part of him, even the monster that devours and so he cannot ever think that she’d hate him.
