“Did not know you could pull off blue” Stacey laughs as you walk towards her.
It was Hawkins Middle School Snow dance, and you were dressed your best.
Blue dress that went down to your feet, hair done with clips your mom insisted you have, and makeup that felt a bit too have.
”Thanks” You smile, “you look nice too”
”Thanks, now come on, we have work to do!” Stacey giggles, taking you inside the gym.
As you two enter the gym you are surprised at how well put together the place is. Blue and silver decorations everywhere, and soft pop music playing, trying to get students to dance.
You two go sit at a table together, somehow managing to be the first ones there.
You watch the exit nervously, hoping to see the person you want walk in.
First you see Max come in, followed by Will, then Lucas.
“Hey dont be anxious he’ll come soon” Stacey says, nudging you a bit.
You feel your face flush a bit, rolling your eyes at her teasing.
You told Stacey about your crush on a boy in your English class. His name was Dustin and you were enamored with him. He was somewhat shy but so kind. Always helping you with questions you have and making sure you always had a seat next to him. He was cute, and he was always smiling how could you not like him?
”Holy shit look at that” Stacey says, shaking you out of your thoughts as you look up.
You look up and see Dustin enter. His hair is big, like, really big. But he looks confident, and you smile at it.
“I don't know how you’re into that” Stacey teases, watching him walk towards his group of friends.
You giggle, rolling your eyes as you watch Dustin talk with his friends, ruffling his hair and laughing. You smile at the scene, happy to watch from a distance.
You watch for a few more seconds, your friends teasing you as you watch. Then you hear the pop music turn into slow dancing music.
“Shit okay how do I look?” You ask your friends, giggling as they fix your fly aways and add a bit more lipstick on you.
“He’s coming” Stacey whispers to you, smiling as she tries not to make eye contact.
You have your back turned to him, trying to calm your blush before you turn around.
But before you can say hi to him, Dustin says something,
“Stacey” Dustin says, yet you dont turn around, a bit stunned he said a name that wasnt yours.
“Shall we do this?” You hear Dustin ask, you feel your heart drop, completely refusing to turn around.
“Uh, no thanks, lets go” she says quickly, grabbing onto you and hurrying you to the bathroom.
You close the door completely, trying not to cry. You try to steady your breathing as Stacey and your other friends come inside, comforting you.
“Why the hell would he ask me? I dont even know the guy” Stacey says, fixing some strands of hair,
”I thought he would ask me” you sigh, feeling your eyes water. You sigh, feeling as if you blew your one chance to talk to him,
“Look just forget about him, okay? Let’s just have a good time” Your friends reassure, you
You smile, happy that you have people to cheer you up. You look at yourself in the mirror, happy with how you look. You sigh and nod, your friends walking out with you.
You exit the bathroom, going with your friends back to the dance slow, everyone taking turns to slow dance together as they sing to the music. You take turns dancing with them all, laughing and smiling as you twirl each other around. Yet as you dance, you notice Dustin sitting on the bleachers, alone.
You let go of your friend, letting go of her as you stare at the scence.
You look back towards your friends, “Im gonna go sit down, Ill be back soon” you say, walking of to where Dustin is sitting.
”Hey,” you say quietly
”Huh? hey! I didnt know you were here” Dustin says quickly, wiping tears from his eyes, which practically makes your heart break
”You didnt?” You ask, looking confused,
“No, I saw Stacey but I didnt see you, sorry about that” Dustin sniffles.
You sigh, feeling a bit bad for him. You really did like him, and this was your chance.
”Wanna dance?” You ask, extending your hand out for him to take
”What?” He asks, you roll your eyes smiling at him,
”Come on, let's go dance” You say, taking his hand and forcing him up, taking him to the dance floor
”do you know how to do this?” You ask him, placing you arms around his neck
”No,” he admits softly, blushing, making you laugh. You take your arms off him, and guide his arms to your waist
”Just like that, now move closer” you giggle, noticing how stretched out his arms are, he moves closer, making you nod in approval. You put your arms back around his neck, and slowly start moving with the music
”It’ll be harder for you since I know how to do this, but you can manage, just follow what I do” you say, trying to guide him to dance to the music
”Okay” he squeaks out, not wanting to take his eyes off you. You two dance a bit in silence, Dustin's face red, and you trying to force yourself not to blush.
”So uh, if you did see me when I was with Stacey, would you have asked me to dance?” You ask suddenly, making Dustin snap out of his thoughts
”What? I mean yeah-if you were there I would have I guess” Dustin says, his words quick
”Oh so you didnt want to dance with me” you tease, trying to sound disappointed,
”No no no” Dustin says quickly before sighing, “I did want to ask you to dance”
”Oh, okay” you say softly, trying to avoid eye contact with him. You two dance in silence for a while, naturally getting closer to each other as the music continues,
“Dustin can I admit something to you” You say, breaking the silence
”What is it?” Dustin say quickly,
You stay silent for a few seconds, “I was hoping I got to dance with you” you say.
You see Dustins face redden, avoiding eye contact with you as the song finishes. You two stand still, unsure of what to do. The silence between you two killing you as you pray for the next song to start”
“Im glad I got to dance with you too, I really like you” he says quickly, trying to hold eye contact with you as you stare at him. You feel your body let out a sigh, smiling at him.
You eyes rift all over his face, his hair, which he really needs to tone down, his eyes, his cheeks, his lips. Dustin catches your eyes doing so, his face going even more red
”Hey Dustin?” You say after some time, ”Loose the big hair allright?” You say with a chuckle
”Okay, yeah okay done” Dustin says quickly. You laugh at his answer, leaning in close and kiss him.
You both look stunned that that just happened. But soon the shock turns into smiles and eventually laughter. You two laugh as you try to get your face to stop. As the laughter finally dies down you go and reach his hand,
“I like you too” you say finally, smiling a bit. Dustin smiles back, giggling as he turns around to face the tables,
”Hey the table that my party is at is empty, do you maybe wanna sit down?” Dustin asks rather shyly.
You giggle and start walking with him, glancing at Stacey, who smiles at you.
“I’d love to” you laugh.

Chapter 6: The Fall Ball
of "Every Flavor of You"
⬅️ Prev | Index | Next ➡️
Most of the time, Derek didn’t feel the magnitude of the loss of growing up without his father. He was so young when his dad died that he had a hard time distinguishing between genuine memories he had of his dad, and images that came primarily from photographs. There was one memory he could have sworn was of his dad, the cornerstone of who he imagined his father to be. Walking through the forest with him, talking about the animals that lived there. It was only a few years ago that he realized, upon watching it again, that the “memory” was lifted wholesale out of a scene from a movie: a gallant knight’s memory of being with his son as he lay dying on a battlefield.
It was hard not to feel a twinge of that loss as Laura tried for the fourth time to help him try to decipher how the guy in the how-to video managed to tie a tie without one end being twice as long as the other.
“I swear, we’ve almost got it,” Laura said, sensing Derek’s frustration.
“Is the tie even necessary? I look stupid in this thing either way.”
Laura laughed as she stood behind him and started tying the tie in the mirror for the fifth time. Derek clenched his jaw.
“Derek,” she said as she tucked the thick end of the tie in through the loop it made around the thin end, “you’re so dumb sometimes. There,” she said, pulling it down and tight, finally getting the two ends of the tie right.
Derek saw the scowl on his face in the mirror.
“Look,” Laura said, grabbing his shoulders, making him stand up straight in the mirror, “you don’t look stupid. You look good. Stiles is gonna love the suit.”
“Really?”
“Jesus. This is why you’re so dumb. You don’t need me to tell you this. Look for yourself.”
Derek did look and was surprised to see that he wasn’t swimming in it like he used to when he wore suits as a kid. He filled it out pretty well, actually.
“You see?” Laura said.
“Derek!” Cora called up the stairs. “He’s here!”
“You’ve got this, Derek. Go get ‘em.”
Derek made it to the upstairs landing when his mom opened the front door.
“You must be the famous Stiles,” she said as she opened the door, revealing a very famous-looking Stiles indeed, even if that’s not what his mom meant. He was dressed in a suit and tie like Derek’s own, but Stiles made it look dapper and charming.
“Mrs. Hale,” Stiles said, reaching out to shake her hand.
“Please, call me Talia.”
Derek’s dress shoes clomped as he started walking down the stairs, and Stiles’ eyes flew to him. If his sister’s words weren’t enough to give him confidence before, the look on Stiles’ face as he looked up at him was.
“You’re so handsome,” Stiles said, when he got down the stairs.
“You are,” Derek said.
“I got us matching boutonnièrs,” Stiles said, holding out a plastic box in his left hand.
“Let me help you two get those on,” Talia said. “And then I want pictures.”
Derek’s instinct was to groan and protest, but he didn’t want to risk not ending up with a picture of him and Stiles together.
---
“Red?” Derek asked, stroking the boutonnièr on his lapel as Stiles drove them to the dance.
“Yeah. They didn’t have green ones, but I figured with the leaves and stuff it was red and green together. Like–”
“Cam-Million and Stopwatch.”
“Yeah,” Stiles said, drumming his thumb on the steering wheel. “Is that too dorky?”
“No,” Derek said, too fast. “I love it.”
“Your mom said I’m famous,” Stiles said, cockiness seeping back into his voice.
“Yeah,” Derek said, feeling bolder. “Don’t let it go to your head. I talk about all my lab partners.”
“Oh yeah? You got a lot of them?”
“Yeah. English lab. History lab. PE lab.”
“Oh see, I don’t have to take PE because I’m on the hurling team. I didn’t even know there were PE lab partners.”
“Yeah. It’s a real thing.”
---
“Hey, Stiles!” someone called out when Derek and Stiles got in line to enter the dance. It was the boy with a mess of floppy dark hair that was always smiling and always with Stiles at school.
“Hey, Scott. You’ve met Derek, right?”
“No, but I’ve heard a lot about you,” Scott said, reaching out his hand.
Derek couldn’t suppress his smile as he cocked an eyebrow at Stiles and shook Scott’s hand.
“You’re on the hurling team with Stiles, right?”
“Yeah. He was the one who convinced me to start when we were little,” Scott said, bumping his shoulder against Stiles’.
“How long have you guys been playing?”
“Since we were seven.”
“Tickets?” the girl at the front of the line asked. Scott handed over his while Stiles searched through his pockets to find theirs.
“Here,” Stiles said, handing them over.
The three of them walked inside the decorated gymnasium. Derek could feel the pounding music in his chest as he saw the silhouettes of his classmates bouncing in the dim light. Scott started leading them through the crowds of people in a single file, and at one point, Stiles reached back and grabbed Derek’s hand to make sure he was following close behind. All the loud music and flashing lights faded away, leaving just the electricity Derek felt where their hands touched.
Scott stopped in an empty pocket, barely bouncing to the beat of the music, eyes fixed on a spot behind where Stiles was jumping to the beat and trying to get Derek to jump too. Stiles looked at Scott and then looked to where Scott was looking before he rolled his eyes.
“Ugh. Scott,” Stiles said, “stop pining over her and ask her to dance.”
“What? No. She’s with her friends. She doesn’t want some loser to come ask to dance with her.”
“Who?” Derek asked.
“Allison Argent,” Scott sighed.
“The girl with the dark wavy hair talking with Lydia Martin,” Stiles said, pointing them out to Derek. “Look, if you’re not going to talk to her, you have to come dance with us. This song is good and fast. Come on.”
Despite thinking of himself as awkward and self-conscious, Derek liked dancing. Especially to faster music. He liked the physicality of being in his body and jumping around and waving his arms. He was certain that he looked ridiculous, but with Stiles right next to him, making an even bigger fool of himself, for once he didn’t feel like he had to be invisible amidst his peers.
They had fun jumping around and dancing together to a string of fast songs until a slow song came on and suddenly Derek didn’t know what to do with himself. He was trying not to look at Stiles and instead saw Scott, and then where Scott was looking. Jackson, who everyone knew was dating Lydia, took her hand and led her to the dance floor, leaving Allison alone and looking around.
“Scott,” Stiles said, clearly trying to whisper, and clearly unaware of how loud he was, “I swear to God, if you don’t go ask her to dance right now and give me a chance to see if I even have a shot with Derek, right now, I’m going to kill you.”
Derek did his best to school his face so the butterflies in his stomach didn’t give away that he heard him.
Scott nodded and then walked off in Allison’s direction. Stiles turned back toward Derek and smiled awkwardly.
“Um,” Stiles said, one hand on the back of his neck as he held the other out, “can I have this dance?”
“Yeah,” Derek breathed as he took his hand. “Um, I don’t know how to slow dance though.”
Stiles' smile shone in the dim light. “It’s easy. We just,” he took Derek’s hand and put it on his lower back, “put our hands on each other like this,” then he put both of his hands on Derek’s shoulders, and Derek put his other hand on the other side of Stiles’ lower back. “And then we just shuffle side to side in a circle. Little steps so we don’t step on each other. Yeah. Just like that.”
Stiles’ face was only a few inches from Derek’s. Stiles’ eyes were locked on Derek’s. Stiles’ breath was hitting his lips. The muscles of Stiles’ tight, lithe core shifted under Derek’s hands through his suit as they shuffled. And Stiles’ hands were on him. Holding him firmly. This was the best thing that had ever happened to Derek, and he couldn’t believe that less than a week ago he hadn’t even planned on coming. And before he knew what he was doing he was leaning forward and kissing Stiles.
“So it is a date,” Stiles whispered as their lips parted.
“Yeah. What do you mean?” Derek asked.
“You never said. If we were going as friends or as…”
“You got us matching boutonnièrs.”
“I was hopeful.”
Derek laughed. “Yeah it’s a date. Can you not tell how much I like you?”
“I mean,” Stiles said, “I thought there was a chance. You’re really hard to read. Sometimes the way you look at me I can’t tell if you want to kiss me or bite me.”
Derek couldn’t say where the impulse came from, but biting Stiles sounded just as good as kissing him. He was certain Stiles would think that was crazy though, so he leaned forward to kiss him as an answer instead.
Stiles’ lips felt so sweet and perfect against his.
“Hey,” Derek said, reaching out to the skin above Stiles’ lip. “You’ve got a bloody nose. Here.”
Stiles pinched his nose and followed Derek as he rushed to the punch table where he found some napkins.
“This is really gonna mess with your opinion of me,” Stiles said as he pushed a napkin against his nose. “I have my first kiss and react like an anime character.”
“Why would you getting a bloody nose mess with my opinion of you? And how is that like an anime character? ”
“Nevermind. Don’t look it up. Sorry for ruining the mood.”
Derek laughed. “You’re not ruining the mood. This has been the best night ever. When you’re okay again, we can go dance and stuff some more.”
“And stuff?” Stiles said, waggling his eyebrows.
Derek felt the heat in his cheeks. “I’m going to get us some punch.”
By the time Derek got back, Stiles’ nosebleed had cleared up.
“Look,” Stiles said, pointing out Scott dancing with Allison. “He did it!”
They spent the rest of the night dancing–the faster songs with Scott and Allison, the slower songs just the two of them. They talked and ate and drank punch and never let their hands off of each other. And Derek had never known just how happy it was possible to be.
---
After the dance, Stiles drove Derek back home. They stayed there a long time. Talking and kissing, reluctant to leave each other.
“Thanks,” Derek said as their lips parted one last time. “For tonight. For asking me. For everything.”
“Any time,” Stiles said, raising his eyebrows meaningfully.
“And if I take you up on that?”
“I’d be disappointed if you didn’t.”
Derek couldn’t sleep when he got back into bed. He was too electrified by everything from the night. He was lying there, staring at the ceiling, happy, when he remembered what Stiles said about anime characters with nosebleeds.
He pulled out his phone and looked it up.
“Wow,” he said to himself in the darkness, taking in the implication. He couldn’t believe how incredibly lucky he was.

Summary:
You're struggeling to find a date for the summer ball
♡ ♡ ♡
When the teachers first announced the summer ball, you didn’t think it would be such a big deal to you.
School dances are never really that cool after all.
Especially with the teachers around who always find a way to destroy the mood: Either by constantly keeping an eye on the drinks to make sure nobody manages to slip some alcohol in, or by trying to make (really awkward) conversations with their students.
At least, that were your experiences in your former high school.
Maybe here in Colorado things are different, because somehow all of your friends are super excited.
And it´s really contagious!
To your own surprise - a few days later you are pretty excited, too.
One of the major topics among the students (other than which dress would be the perfect fit) is, of course, who will go together.
There are quite a few cute boys in your school and some of them are also very popular among the girls.
Of course most of the girls are all over Cole Walter, the cool guy, the bad boy.
This is going to be really interesting, especially because of the tension between him and Jackie. You can almost bet that he'll ask her, not caring if this will break both Erin's and Alex' heart.
In the meantime, you are secretly hoping for being asked by Isaac.
In school the both of you don't really cross paths, but whenever you visit Jackie, you always end up playing at least one video game with him. He just always seems to be there, whether you and Jackie hang out in the living room or grab some snacks from the kitchen. He appears out of nowhere and always jokes around with you.
While Jackie reacts really annoyed most of the times, you enjoy his company.
"Why is he always there? Katherine promised that we can have the living room this afternoon!"
Most of the time you just shrug. "I don't mind him staying. Maybe our movie choice will scare him away anyways."
Well, most of the time it didn't. No matter what kind of film you chose, Isaac stayed. To your surprise he didn't even play games on his smartphone but actually paid attention.
"That's the kind of films you like?" He asked you once after you and Jackie watched a sappy love story.
"Among other things, yes."
He seemed surprised but didn't say anything about it.
♡ ♡ ♡
The weeks pass by pretty fast and most of the handsome boys are already taken.
As far as you heard, Isaac doesn't have a date yet but with his good looks it's only a matter of time until he is taken, too.
You start to get really nervous, as you don't know what to do. Should you wait until he makes the first move - if he even plans on asking you - or should you take action yourself?
Do you even have the courage to ask someone out?
God, why does it have to be so complicated?
You think about asking your friends for their opinion, but first of all this would mean admitting your crush on Isaac to Jackie - and since she basically lives with him this would be very weird.
Second, all your friends were busy preparing their own dates. All they talk about are dresses, high heels and how their perfect evening at the ball would look like.
To be honest, they had pretty high expectations, but for them it was at least realistic.
Unlike you, Jackie doesn't give up that easily when it comes to your date.
"Someone will ask you, you'll see!", she smiles at you as you and your friends enter the ball gown shop. “You´ll regret it when someone asks you and you don´t have a dress. Trust me, the best ones will be taken in a few days.”
Damn, she can be really convincing and she knows it!
♡ ♡ ♡
Three days until the ball and still nobody even seems to think about asking you out.
Slowly you start to get really nervous.
Why does no one ask you?
You have never been insecure about your looks but this situation really makes you doubt. Are you that unattractive? Or is it your personality? Do you annoy people?
Your excitement for buying a beautiful dress and having a wonderful night slowly fades and turns into anxiety.
Why did you even buy a dress… was is arrogant to buy one without having a date, because you thought of course someone would ask you?
Jackie really tries her best to cheer you up, but nothing she says makes you feel better.
You curl up in her bed, hugging her pillow tight to your chest. “I´m not going to the ball… it´s embarrassing to show up alone…”
“I´m sure somebody will ask you. Maybe he´s just nervous.”
"Don't be ridiculous! There are only three days left. All the guys who don't have a date yet, are not going."
"Don't lose hope! Somebody will ask you for sure!"
Jackie and your other friends have been telling you the exact same thing for almost two weeks now.
In the beginning you were very confident and believed them, but with every day and as everyone else in your friend group got a date, you slowly start to lose hope.
And now you are convinced that nobody is gonna ask you.
“Maybe I´m just ugly.”
Jackie lies down next to you and pulls you into a comforting hug. “Y/N L/N, don´t you dare to even think that!”
For a while you stay quiet, trying to find comfort in Jackys words… until your thoughts mess with your head again.
But what if it´s true? What if you´re really ugly?
“I know it´s stupid”, you start again, repeating what you already said several times, “It´s just a ball, maybe I shouldn´t make such a big deal out of it.”
Jackie hugs you a little tighter, her chin resting on your shoulder. “It´s not stupid… I totally understand how you feel.”
Does she really? From what you know, Alex and Cole almost started a fight about who´s going to be her date. You can´t help but feel jealous off her. She has boys fighting over her and no one even thinks about asking you. It is like you are invisible.
Damn, seems like all your favorite high school movies lied! Just because you moved here at the beginning of the school year, it doesn´t make you more interesting among the boys.
But on the other hand… for Jacky the new girl fantasy is true.
“Hey, we can go together if you want”, Jacky starts another attempt and grabs your hand, pulling you to your feet.
A broad smile spreads across her face as she intertwines your fingers and whirls you around, pretending to be on the dance floor already. “We would definitely make the prettiest couple!”
You can´t help but laugh as you pretend to bow and place a quick kiss on her hand. “Mylady!”
This is again one of those moments, in which you realize how much you love Jackie. She is an amazing friend and probably the only one who always knows how to cheer you up.
With a grin she rises an eyebrow. “So we have a date?”
The smile disappears from your face as you sit back down on her bed. “No, I don´t want to crash your date with Alex.”
“Don´t worry about him, I´m sure, he´ll understand. I can go out with him another time.”
“No, it´s… it´s fine. Maybe I don´t even have time to go to the ball…”
Lies and excuses. You don´t really think about your words as you babble on about what you plan to do instead. Maybe you could call your old friends from your hometown. Maybe you could watch a movie with your siblings. Maybe… you stop mid thought.
Are you trying to convince Jacky that you´ll be just fine or are you trying to convince yourself?
You feel the tears welling up in your eyes.
Quickly you jump to your feet again. The last thing you want is to cry in front of Jacky. It would make her feel even worse. Besides, you really hated crying in front of others.
Murmuring something about having to go to the bathroom, you rush out of her room and almost bump into Lee.
“Y/N!” He sounds surprised but happy to see you. The two of you aren´t close enough that you would call him your friend, but you always enjoy talking to him whenever you see him in school or at the Walters´ house.
“Hi, Lee”, you murmur, your voice sounding way too high and on the edge of breaking. Quickly you turn away from him, trying to hide your tears, but he still seems to notice.
His smile fades. “Hey, what´s wrong?”
“It´s nothing…” You try to walk past him, but he blocks your way.
“It´s not nothing! You can tell me, you know?”
“It´s stupid… it´s just…” You sigh heavily. “It´s about the ball… nobody has asked me yet and that really messes with my head. I just don´t understand it. Do boys really hate me that much?”
You do not really expect an answer, but then you see Lee´s face. His eyes widen, as if he just came to a realization. “Em… I don´t…”
“You know what´s up!” You stare at him in disbelief. “Tell me!”
“I´m not sure if I…”
“TELL ME!”
Lee sighs heavily. “Okay, maybe I know something…”
You cross your arms in front of your chest and give him a suspicious look. “What is it? Oh come one, spit it out!”
His hesitation annoys you deeply, as you were never the calm and patient type.
Lee avoids to look you in the eye and stares at his shoes instead. “Maybe it´s just a rumor but… I heard that Isaac tells boys to not ask you to the ball.”
Your jaw drops. “He what?”
Lee couldn´t look more uncomfortable. “Well… I heard Dylan telling his friends, that he wants to ask you to the ball and... when Isaac heard that, he told him that you definitely didn´t want to go with him. He said that you were really picky when it came to boys and… that you always made fun of the boys that you rejected… saying how pathetic they are and that you are totally out of their league.”
Your heart clenches inside your chest and the feeling of betrayal rises inside you. It hurts to hear how Isaac talks about you behind your back.
You´ve always thought he was cool and the two of you always got along well, damn it, you even have a crush on him.
“Thank you, Lee, and if you excuse me now, I have to talk to your brother!” Your voice trembles with anger.
Before Lee can stop you or talk you out of it – which he desperately tries – you stomp down the stairs. “ISAAC GARCIA!”
Damn, you didn´t know you could sound so scary.
Isaac hesitantly comes out of the living room and as he sees you he immediately runs a hand through his hair. He always does that when you´re around, but you never really paid much attention to it until today.
His face freezes as he sees you angrily making your way towards him. “Y/N, what´s up?”
This question finally breaks the camel´s back.
He knows exactly what´s up! Why is he acting so innocent?
Without even considering to greet him or to answer his question, you glare at him. “I hate you!”
He looks at you in shock, his coolness falling off him like a mask. You´ve never seen him this flabbergasted before. With a deep frown, he opens his mouth, about to say something, but you don´t plan to give him the opportunity for questions and excuses.
You turn around and storm out of the room.
“Y/N!” He rushes after you and before you can reach the stairs, he grabs your wrist and forces you to turn towards him. “What´s wrong? What did I do?”
“What you did?!” You break free from his grip and step back, away from him. “You told guys not to ask me to the ball! Can you even imagine how that made me feel? What the hell is wrong with you?”
You try not to shout but the pent-up-anger makes that impossible. If his cousins are home, they definitely heard that. You also wouldn't be surprised if Jackie came downstairs to check on you. Luckily, in that moment you couldn´t care less.
Isaac clearly looks caught. He rises his hands in a defensive gesture. “Okay, you can hate me but please let me explain.”
Does he really think there was a good explanation for this messed up stuff he did? You never thought he could be so manipulative.
“I already know the reason! You´re an idiot!”
“Yes…” He avoids looking at you and stares at the floor instead. “But there´s also another reason.” Again, he runs a hand through his hair and you are surprised to see his fingers trembling. “I told the boys not to ask you, because… I wanted to ask you.”
You feel like you´ve just been hit by a train. Before you realize it, an incredulous laugh escapes your lips.
What did he just say?
You wait for him to laugh too and say it was just a joke – a mean one, but after what Lee just told you, exactly the type of joke you´d expect from him – but instead he lowers his gaze to the ground, clearly hurt by your reaction.
You freeze in your spot, anger slowly turning into confusion. “Why didn´t you just ask me then?”
Your voice sounds much softer now, almost like a whisper, but Isaac still can´t look at you.
“I wanted to but… I got nervous and…” He sighs deeply as he runs out of words to say. “I heard Steve say that he wanted to ask you and I panicked so… I told him not to do it.”
“You´re such an idiot” You barely realize the words that escape your lips.
It just doesn´t make sense! Isaac is not someone who gets nervous or jealous – at least that´s what you always thought. He is way too cool for that – or is that just him pretending?
“Yeah, because I´m in love with you.”
It takes you a few seconds to realize what he just said.
Isaac Garcia confessing his feelings for you had been your dream for almost a year now. A few weeks ago you would have been floating on clouds, but now you don't know what to answer.
Isaac steps closer, looking at you desperately. "I know I messed up but I'm really really sorry. If you want, I can talk to the boys again and tell them the truth."
"You're in love with me?" You repeat his words, still not being able to believe it.
He looks taken aback, clearly not expecting this to be your focus. "Yes, I am."
Slowly you step closer and grab his hand. "Ever since the teachers announced the ball, I was hoping you'd ask me to go with you."
His eyes widen in surprise. "Really?"
Another laugh escapes your mouth. Was he really that oblivious? "Yes! To be honest, I was pretty sure you knew about my crush on you."
"You have a crush on me?" He can't help it, his face lights up like a Christmas tree.
"Wasn't that obvious?"
"No! Damn, if I knew, I would have asked you to be my date for the ball on the very first day."
"You can ask me now." You lift your chin and look at him with a playful smile.
He clears his throat, trying to be formal and keep a straight face. "Y/N L/N, do you want to be my date for the ball?"
"I'd love to."
A huge smile on his face, he steps closer, placing his hands on your hips as he pulls you in for a kiss.
You've been waiting for this moment for so long, you can't wait to feel his lips against yours. And when your lips finally meet, it feels like a fairy tale come true.
His kiss is soft but passionate, sending a pleasant tingling sensation through your body.
His grip gets more firm, almost as if he is afraid you'd change your mind and back away.
To reassure him, you wrap your arms around him, one of your hands softly stroking his hair.
Time stands still. You don't know for sure how long the kiss lasts, but finally you let go of him slowly and look at him, shaking your head with a smile. "I love you, Isaac Garcia, but you're still an idiot!"
"I'm your idiot"
