What is Practice Portal and how does it work?

Our Practice Portal allows our registered students to take practice exams for the FE and PE (Civil only) exams ahead of time to test their knowledge. The portal has topic-specific practice tests, and students can take as many practice tests as they want to.

Any registered FE and PE (Civil only) students can find the mock exams in your Study Hub. You can log in and take up practice tests from the list. There are over 2000 practice problems for the Breadth portion of the exam, which adhere to NCEES requirements.

What does it offer?

Exam Simulator

The mock exam is remarkably like the real FE or PE NCEES exams. The exam simulator is like the actual test, and it includes timed sessions, randomized questions with various levels of difficulty.

Quiz generator

This feature allows students to build customized practice exams based on student preferences. Students can select the number of questions, subjects, and the level of difficulty for each question for each practice test.

Diagnostic report

After students finish a practice test, they will receive a diagnostic report with a complete analysis of the test. The information provides a student with a checklist of their strengths and weaknesses and where to focus their studies before the actual exam.

Why Should You Take Up The FE Exam?

If you are an engineering student, then you have heard about the FE exam. If you want to become a licensed engineer, you will need to pass this test.

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is one of the two most intensive competency exams that are required to qualify for the professional engineer license (PE). An engineering student should consider taking the FE exam as a step towards becoming a PE. The decision to take the FE depends on the student’s desire after he/she has gained the necessary work experience. The FE exam is not a degree requirement to graduate, and it is not an entrance exam for future education.

The FE exam should be taken by students who are about to finish their undergraduate engineering degree. People can take the exam during their final semester as an undergraduate. The exam can also be taken much earlier or after graduation. The exam is not state-specific and administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

What does the FE Chemical Engineering exam consist of?

The FE exam is a computer-based test that is closed-book with electronic reference. The test is six hours long, and there are 110 questions to be answered. The exam includes a short tutorial with an optional scheduled break and a two-minute non-disclosure agreement. The FE exam utilizes both the US Customary System (USCS) and the International System of Units (SI).

The topics on the test can be probability and statistics, mathematics, engineering sciences, material science, computational tools, Fluid mechanics, chemistry, material/energy balances, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mass transfer and separation, process design and economics, chemical reaction engineer, safety, health and environment, process control, and ethics and professional practice.

What score is needed to pass the exam?

The FE exam is either pass or fail. The NCEES is opaque in how they determine the passing score. You will receive a point for every correct answer, and there are no deductions for an incorrect answer. The score is then converted into a scale from 0 to 15. So, for the FE Chemical Engineering exam, the pass rate is 75%. The result will also include a diagnostic report that will showcase a scaled score of the entire exam.

 Tips to prepare for the FE exam

· Create the best study schedule

· Make sure that you review all the exam subjects. You must adhere to a review schedule.  

· Brush up on your math skills

· All the topics on the FE will test your math skills. Everyone needs to have knowledge in probability, statistics, calculus, and analytical geometry.  

·Be prepared

During the review process, make sure that you solve each of the numerical examples by using your calculator and then read through the solution. Then refer to the equations, tables, and figures which it references. A high-value activity is reading the instructional text and since there is not much to read in the first place, per word is important.

·Practice problems

It is necessary to complete as many practice problems as possible. There are less than 3 minutes to answer each question, and you must be able to recall the formulas, solution procedures, and important data quickly.

Communication

What Are Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams? | Plant Design and Operations | PE Chemical
